It's at the very back of engine, between the firewall and the center/rear of the engine. You will need a 10mm socket to losen the bolt holding the stick in place.

Your car is an automatic, right?... because a MT won't have a dipstick for the gear oil in the tranny.

Is it like a clicking/grinding sound? If it is them my car also makes the same noise. I believe I was once told its the brake lock release that makes this noise, and that it's perfectly normal.

2005, 5AT.

Does it only do it when you put it in reverse? Could be the rear axle click. There is a TSB for that.

Does it do it when you put it in Drive as well... or just reverse?? Try putting your car in neutral when stopped and with your foot on the brake, and then going from neutral to Drive and see if it does it.

Definitely go to the dealer as they are familiar with all the rear axle issues. Just make sure there is no charge or a reasonable one to check it out.

Yep.. it falls under the powertrain warranty, so it's only covered if your car is less than 6 years old and has less than 70K miles on it. The only way they would cover it beyond that would be if it fell under the category of a recall...which this particular problem area doesn't.
