Auto headlight sensor

Hi,

I need to pass inspection and I need to know where the auto-headlight sensor is located so my lights turn on all the time. I want to stick some tape on top. I'm in Canada.

Doesn't the auto-headlight only work at certain levels of light??

I guess so but if I put a tape over it - it should have the lights stay on all the time if I keep the **** at auto.

there are two of them i think.... pretty sure they are two semi-dome shaped things where the windshield and dashboard meet.

Yea, I think its that thing on the dash near the windshield. It has a plastic dome cover.

I'd second the location (or third it by now) because when I had to throw my plates up there (pass side) for a while, the lights NEVER turned off hehe

How much are Xenon bulbs? In Canada, it`s not the whole headlight that turns on during the day. I don`t want to have to replace my bulbs very often.

No. The law ins that you can`t be able to turn the lights off. Sure I just can turn them on when I get in the car - but if I forget I can get a steep ticket.

What whack part of Canada do you live in?

All you require is DRL (Daytime Running Lights), hence the reason most new cars are equipped with an "Auto" function.

Xenon bulbs are expensive man, don't use them when you don't have to.

I know but all cars in Canada must have DRL. If the ignition is on, you are not able to turn them off by any means (the auto mode is not enough as it can be turned off). It doesn`t have to be the headlights. I believe that the Canadian G35 have the fog lights or high beams on all the time.

Anyways, I`m getting it done at the dealer ($350).

I could be wrong but don`t those sensors also serve for some climate control functionality?
