Just got rejected from the dealer for a new engine replacement..

Went back to the dealer after undergoing the 1000 mile oil consumption test. Dealer said my 07 G35 coupe was burning approximately .25 of a quart every 1000 miles and that was considered normal. Is that really normal?? Sounds bad to me. What do you guys think I should do?

Richard if you don't already, start using synthetic oil and quality filters. Drive your G and enjoy it, but check your oil level weekly....just to be safe!

1qt every 4k miles sounds about right. I believe oil consumption eats like a whole qt every 1k mile.

+1... to qualify for a new engine, you need to be burning 1+ quart per 1000 miles.

1/4 of a quart of oil every 1K miles isn't that bad at all.

Although my car doesn't burn a drop of oil(knock on wood), I still wouldn't consider your oil usage to be a problem yet. Definitely keep an eye on it though and if it starts to get worse, have it tested again. Fortunately for you, your car is still pretty new so you have plenty of time left on the powertrain warranty... assuming you don't have a crazy ton of miles on it.

If it makes you feel any better, BMW M5's and M6's use about a quart of oil every 600-900 miles or so.. and that's normal for all of them... and those guys spent between 90 to 110K for their cars.

1qt=24mm
3/4qt=18mm
2/3qt=16mm
1/2qt=12mm

5qts according to the manual are used for oil change with filter, and i believe for the oil consumption dealer adds more than that.....

The limit for Chevy back in the late sixties and seventies was one quart in 700 miles! If your doing a quart per 4K, you are alright.

No it's not normal. Maybe it might be "normal" for a G35, but on my previous s2k, the oil on the dipstick was still on the fill line after 6k miles of redline abuse. Didn't look any different then it did when I 1st bought it. Oil level was always near the fil line.

On my 06 G35, it's the same. I never abuse it, never go pas 5k on the rev, and after 6k miles, the oil is still near the fill line. BUT, I'm using the thicker oil. 10w 30..

Instead of the 5w...
