Well if it turns out that it was just an $80 ballast......which sounds more reasonable as the problem seeing as how the lights worked perfectly fine for the last couple months......then I shouldn't be paying 300.

Wouldn't that be the first thing for a competitent dealership to check when one light works and the other doesn't....especially when they know that everything was working fine and it was all hooked up and working properly. Shouldn't the ballast or the bulb be among the first items checked?

u seem to know so much, y dont u just do it yourself and stop bitching about a dealership working on your headlights. its a simple plug and play thing, if u add hid fogs its 2 extra wires spliced into the harness.

that's how it's setup.

why is everyone here so quick to defend the dealership? why don't you focus on the thread and what's in it instead of something else?

does the price of quote "at least 3 hours of labor, maybe less, maybe more at $120 an hour" seem reasonable or at all fair knowing that:

1. fogs are spliced into the harness.
2. everything was working fine for several months and....06 headlights and fogs were perfect.
3. passenger just suddenly went out.

3 hours of labor seems a bit steep considering that the problem is most likely a bad ballast and not anything to do with the wiring. i went there stating that my fogs were out and that the right passenger just went out and that it occasionally flickers on......

They gave you a quote and a time-line. It was up to you to take it or leave it.

The Infiniti service rep and service tech does thing by protocol. If you wanted to tell them how to do their work, you should have went to a neighborhood garage and talk to the service tech directly and you can suggest what you think the problem is.

The Infinti service rep doesn't even talk directly to the technicians most of the time. They just type whatever you tell them on the invoice. And whoever works at the other end, (usually a bunch of HS kids) does whatever they want to do.

----------

And no it should not be covered under warranty. Anything modified in any way would give Infiniti an excuse not to...

Imagine if you ran a computer shop. You sold someone a computer, he decided to replace the CPU and fried the mobo. Would you replace it for free?

I'll agree with you that the price is a rip, but all dealers are.

And yes, it's bogus that they say the warranty doesn't cover lights, but the problem is they're modified.

Had they been a direct swap (no fog wiring), then maybe you'd be alright.

I would've tried to figure out the problem myself, and if all else fails, take is to the dealer.

Did water get to the area of wiring?

water could be a possibility since the problem just happened during the rain.

i'm surprised it's taking this long. i haven't heard from them at all today and they said they'd call me monday.
