Should I buy a G35 Coupe?

I am on a budget, a pretty low one but I have checked out autotrader and cars.com and I've found quite a few in the range I am looking to spend $13,000 max. I have cash in hand and I am hoping to possibly have one soon providing it checks out.

I am concerned with the reliability of the G35 Coupe however. I've heard numerous things about oil consumption, engine knock, transmission issues etc and I'd like to get the facts from those who know so I can either search and buy, or move on to something else.

Can someone fill me in on the concerns regarding the G35 Coupe? I am only interested in a 6 speed, I've found them with 60-120,000 miles for around the price I am looking to spend but I want something I will be able to count on as a daily driver, not a money pit for repairs.

I personally don't really care about it having some higher miles on it as long as I know I can count on driving it hard, taking care of it, and looking and sounding good. I need something that I can count on to not give me problems.

Thanks for the help

05+ 6speed come with the rev up which means they have the engines with oil consumption.. but then again.. Nissan repaces your engine if you have it..

there are no real issues with the 6speed transmission..

so long as you take care of a car it wont give you problems... you can have the cheapest piece of crap and take care it the right way it will last..

So if it is a 2003 or 2004 6MT Coupe it doesn't have the engine knock and oil consumption issue?

What about the transmission issues the 350z faces? Don't they have the same transmission?

You will save yourself alot of work if you just do a search! There is a ton of stuff on all these issues. You will not be buying a Camry or Accord. Just do your homework and there is alot to read. Good luck.

If you're on a budget, no....

Some 03 are showing up with oil consumptions. Those models should be out of warranty by now.

Also, at 60k, a lot of G has oil seeping thru the spark plug gasket or valve cover seal. They cost over $700 to replace.

Add the cost on maintenance, insurance, etc etc.

Yes, this car has the same transmission.

I bought my 04 w/ 70k miles for $12,250, so it's possible.

As for problems, there aren't any MAJOR ones. Small things like door actuators, window motors, etc.

Your best bet is to find a high mileage 04. Avoid the 03s since that was the first year. The rev-up (05+) motors have the bigger oil consumption problem, though some have experienced it with the 03-04.

The oil seeping through the spark plugs - I don't know much about that. I just changed my spark plugs and everything looked fine.

To me, the G35 has minor annoying problems rather than large ones. The only one I've run into is the door lock actuator.

I would love to just find one and buy it, and I don't care if it has 80-100k on it if it still looks nice and is mechanically sound.

I do however not have any interest in something that is going to cost me significant coin to keep.

One of the perks of searching and finding a good condition well taken care of car is that you don't need to watch it like a hawk or correct previous owners neglect.

I have read numerous issues with the 03-04 350z, people on their second engine, second transmission, and even third... this concerns me greatly.

That pretty much sums it up for everyone!

I have like 22k Miles 06 MT Coupe

Ive had:

- pinging *fixed
- Oil consumption *dealer said its in normal range
- Axle click *fixed (started again so have to go back)
- Transmission shifts like a truck; its clunky, makes noise, but you get used to it
- Wheel bearing *fixed (but I think this was previous owners fault)

This was all done on warranty

You want something reliable? Get a Honda or Toyota

Not trying to scare you though, I still LOVE my 6MT. Its like a high class woman who needs a lot of attention
