WTF is up wit old people driving sick cars
Re: WTF is up wit old people driving sick cars
You guys are funny! Hating on "old" people (40+) for driving what you want/are killing yourself to pay for. Like me, these people are older, successful, probably gave up a lot in their early years (I know I did) to be successful. Now, they have the cash, they want a nice car and they can go buy it outright. What's wrong with that?
I got rid of my G recently. One of the motivating factors was that I see too many younger people driving them like jackasses and I don't want to be associated with that. I'll stick to something people like that can't afford.
Don't begrudge "old people" their CL55s and my trophy wives - maybe you'll be so lucky someday.

Re: WTF is up wit old people driving sick cars
Isn't this a little like the dog biting the hand that feeds it? You people gladly take the nice cars that your parents give you, yet you mock them for wanting to drive nice cars themselves. What are they supposed to drive, Yugos? I fear for the future of this country.

I guess hyescarface00 does not expect to live past 40,
I mean, it sounds as if he'll be giving up his cool rides for an old crown vic(or it's 2024 equivalent) so he won't look like an old tool driving a cool car. What a dickk. LOL
My Mom, 65 years old, who holds an SCCA National Competition license and drives an M3, wants to know when you will come to the track and show her how to drive.
That's right hyescarface00, my Mom is calling you out!!!

Who's mocking....
I'm 27 and paid for the car myself. I've left my parents' nest long time ago.
I'm not mocking anyone, just wondering why an old lady who can't parallel park, needs to drive around in a 493hp AMG edition? is a regular Benz not good or fast enough for her? give me a break, people who don't know how to drive should not be driving powerful cars - it's just a hazard.
And as to you skidmike - no, 42 is not an old fart. I'm talking about some 75+ yr. old who can barely walk let alone crawl into his Ferrari, yet drives one... go figure....

Re: WTF is up wit old people driving sick cars
I personally do not think it is necessary for alot of people to be driving what they drive. But whatever, can't change it, and I just hope that nothing negative happens like when an old person mistakes the accelerator for the brake with 400 hp under the hood.
Also, I used to get mad when I saw a younger person driving a nice car. You know, someone who did not pay for it themself and does not appreciate it as much, basically like high school kids driving nice cars from Daddy. But, I look at myself, I went to college, busted my azz, and now Im driving a G35 coupe, and Im olny 25. So, you know, I dont really care about the rest of the drivers out there as long as they don't dent my car.....LOL
But some hot ladies would be nice seen driving some G's.

Re: WTF is up wit old people driving sick cars
I like to see nice cars period! What bothers me is a POS driving around like a race car. When they wreak their out 500 bucks tops, mean while the rest of the world has to pay for their stupid @ss.
I wish every one could drive the car they wanted....

Re: WTF is up wit old people driving sick cars
Since I live in the Silicon Valley, I see a lot of nice cars every day. A lot of times they are driven by younger people too (dot commers that avoided the bust?).
however, I do see a lot of older people driving expensive cars. Obviously, the older you are, the more accumulated wealth you have to be able to afford nice cars. But these cars are more of a status symbol instead of a fun car to drive to them. my parents' friends bought a BMW 735i but had the dealer put 750i on the trunklid so it seems like they are more bling bling.
I hate to see these cars going through a free gas station car wash or doing lame stuf to disrespect their nice cars.

Re: WTF is up wit old people driving sick cars
To all the people on this post complaining about over 40 drivers; we'll expect you all to trade in your nice sports cars for Civics and Corolla's in 20 years. RIGHT????????
Re: WTF is up wit old people driving sick cars
Funny post.
First off a G35 can be had for marginally more than the AVERAGE price of a new vehicle... An AMG Benz is several multiples more money. For most people it takes many years to get to a point financially where driving a 100k+ car is no big deal. If a teen was driving one I bet you would be equally pissed off...
Not sure what the old a$$ lady comment was for... Our G is my wifes car. From your 'wuts' comment I can only assume that she is older than you, but I doubt she considers herself an 'old a$$ lady'...

Maybe they don't like the looks of some mediocre benz? Last time I checked, the G35 Coupe didn't come in a 100hp 4 cylinder option. More dangerous? What, like they're going to lose their mind and accidentally floor it and do 200mph in a school zone? You can drive a powerful car slowly for god sakes. A young inexperienced driver can be dangerous too!
You obviously appreciate what a hot car the G35 Coupe is, realize that other people of all ages and sexes will also appreciate it and want it for themselves. Lots, and I mean *LOTS* of people buy fast cars with no intention of ever taking them to a track. Sometimes its just for the cheap thrill of being able to take off fast or pass easily. Some people just like the looks. It's no different from the countless soccer-moms who buy a Hummer H2 with no intention of ever going off-roading. If we all bought cars just to go from point A to point B we'd all be driving something like a Toyota Corolla.
I bought my G, my 56 year old Mom liked it so much she went out and bought one herself. Her previous car was a Lexus SC300 that she loved dearly, so the G was the closest match she could ifnd. She's got modern, youthful tastes. She listens to techno, too, BTW. She deserves the best life has to offer, and if you can't respect that, you have some growing up to do.

There isn't much of a difference in the external appearance of an AMG and non AMG - just twin tail pipes, and AMG badge, and other minor things.

You'd be surprised of what old (75+) people are capable of doing on the road. That includes, heart attacks, strokes, or just plainly like someone here said, accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake pedal and run someone over.

Do you really believe that some old lady who needs 10 minutes to park her AMG Benz will really go *** hauling?

56 is not an old fart. When I say old fart I mean someone who can barely walk. Someone whose number of years to live are numbered but yet drives a car that can go from 0-60 in about 4 seconds - to me it's just plain hazard. It has more to do with the age of the driver rather than the car s/he drives. All I'm saying is that most of the older drivers who can also afford very expansive cars do no necessarily know how to drive them, or even more importantly, do not necessarily capable of driving them either. It is true that there are young drivers out there that pose danger to other motorists on the road just as much as old people do. But I think everyone here will agree with me that the reflexes of a 75+ yr. old are not the same as of 25+ yr. old.
There are a lot of old people out there that should not be allowed to drive, that's it. And if you ask me, then the minimum age to obtain a driver's license should be raised to at least 18, maybe even 21. If you're not old enough to drink, you're certainly not old enough to drive.
