Can the G hang with a Z32 TT?
Can the G hang with a Z32 TT?
I told my friend, whose '90 TT 300ZX is in the shop right now, that we should race after he gets his car working properly again. Is a 5AT G coupe able to hang with a TT 300ZX? I doubt it, but would like to see how close it can get. Does anyone have experience?

Re: Can the G hang with a Z32 TT?
The 90 300zx TT 6M stock was 5.6 to 60 and 14.1 in the quarter, but mods were easy [BOV adjustments to increase boost] ecu, exhaust, different turbos, different intercoolers.
1993 were 5.2/13.8.
All depends on how tired his engines is or what mods?

Re: Can the G hang with a Z32 TT?
The default response for all these "G35 vs. _____" threads is it comes down to driver's ability to launch the car and then maintain speed through the turns. TT 300ZX's have around the same HP I think but probably not as much low end torque.

Re: Can the G hang with a Z32 TT?
I know the Z has 300 HP and something like 295 ft-lb of torque, so on paper it definitely should be quicker than the G. Of course, it's an older car, so perhaps it's not at peak performance. I also wonder if the G, being supposedly more technologically advanced, make up for the slight deficit in power (and the extra weight) somewhere else.
Anyway, hopefully I can run my car with my friend's Z and see what happens soon.

Re: Can the G hang with a Z32 TT?
ummm, from a recent interstate merging 'incident', my vote is no. :^o
*** handed to me -though we werent racing, just opening it up to get up to speed..
I tried to keep it real.. he kept it realer.
Re: Can the G hang with a Z32 TT?
the short answer is no, but you might beat him to 20 or 30 MPH, before his turbos spool up.
as tpware suggested, you may want to detach your own *** and give it to your friend, to make it easier when he hands it to you after the race.

Re: Can the G hang with a Z32 TT?
I doubt you would even have him to 20 or 30. My 91 TT had slightly upgraded turbos and there was still BARELY any lag. That thing was damn fast.

Re: Can the G hang with a Z32 TT?
As was mentioned earlier, there are too many factors that can make a huge difference, none of which we know.
Why is his car in the shop?
Does he have the obligatory Jim Wolf 400hp kit?
Can he drive worth a crap?
Can you drive worth a crap?
Overall condition of his TT 300Z?
On the streets, a half-second 0-60 advantage can be lost in a heartbeat due to a poor driver or poor traction conditions. I think the best answer that you're going to get is the one you get after running him.
When it comes to young drivers and high-horsepower turbo applications, I'd have more faith in a kid with an auto-trans. beating you than one in a manual. Kids seem to have the same technique for launching cars and having sex; just punch it and go. Very seldomly is an effective technique employed. lol

Re: Can the G hang with a Z32 TT?
Well, his car is basically stock. He took the engine apart in an attempt to fix an oil leak and forgot how to put it back together (in an 18 month span, the guy is nuts), and recently got a professional to put it back together. Now it needs a new clutch. I rode with him when he fried the clutch (right after picking it up from the engine re-assembly) and the car did feel really fast. I think it'll be pretty fast once it runs again.
I'm pretty sure he's a better driver than me since he's crazy enough to try all kinds of shiznit.
So, yes, I'm ready to detach my *** and hand it to him. But I still would like to see how my G stack up to his Z. I'll report back if it happens before winter.

Re: Can the G hang with a Z32 TT?
Sorry the TTZ will beat the G35 coupe hands down with a good driver. Even stock for stock the 350Z could not beat them.
They suck off the launch but once they get traction and in 2nd gear they will pull hard.

Re: Can the G hang with a Z32 TT?
I looked up some of the specs on the Z32 and something doesn't make sense to me. The Z32 is listed as 300hp/283tq (obviously the G35 coupe is 280/270). The curb weight on the Z32 is about 3500lbs, whereas the G35 is around 3600.
According to what i read, the Z32 is good for 5 seconds flat in the 0-60 and 13.7 in the quarter.
Does 20hp and only 3 more lb/ft of torque (and being 100lbs lighter) make the Z32 that much faster? I suppose the fact that the 3.0 V6 in the Z32 makes it's maximum torque at only 3600rpms helps.
As was said earlier, on the street, there are many variables. He'll most probably get beat (unless his buddy fries up another clutch and messes up his launch bigtime), but i feel like the 5AT G will probably get off the line pretty well. as was said before, when the Z32 hits 2nd gear, it'll probably start to pull away.
Of course, this is all speculation on my part, as i've never gone to the line with a TT. i guess we'll find out

Re: Can the G hang with a Z32 TT?
I raced a 600 HP TTZ at the Streets of willow.we were neck & neck the whole time.I'd pass him, then he'd pass me.neither of us ever pulled away.I think that the TT couldn't take the turns as well as I could, maybe because of where the engine is placed.I do have a SC w/330 hp though

Re: Can the G hang with a Z32 TT?
i raced my friend's bone stock Z32TT. neither car pulled on each other until 3rd gear. we both had a good launch. 3rd gear he pulled ahead slowly by a car and a half. after that pull, it was dead even (he stayed consistently 1.5 cars ahead)until 115-120ish. after that, i slowly crept up on him but ran out of road. if we had raced until top of 6th, i predict that he would be ahead by at most a bumper, but i'm not sure since i haven't taken my car that far yet. so yes, a G can hang with a Z32TT, but in my experience we won't be able to smoke one and vice versa.

My friend's 93 RX-7 with upgraded non-sequential turbos ate me. I'm sure the 300ZX TT would do the same to you.
