Fuel meter broke after the car got jump start!!!(PIC inside)

The battery died in the parking lot, the insurance service "mechanic" came and jumped start the car. Afterward, I noticed the gas gauge got Fcuked up!!!

I replaced the battery and filled up the tank, the meter stays the same. See pictures

Engine OFF

Engine ON

Nav. shows the gas tank is full

Infiniti dealership quote the gas sensor for $600. I am planning to check the price with Nissan dealership. What need to be replaced and how much does it usually cost? Please help.

It looks like they have to change your gauge if anything. I'm not sure if there's a sensor that needs replacing. Whenever I see that at my work, they have to replace that whole gauge unit cause something went wrong in there. You can try Nissan, but they might have to special order that part if its not a sensor. It flipped the other way.. you need to undo your cluster and push the needle past the little black needle that holds it when you switch your car off.. seen it happened to another G but its also blew out his cluster lights.. i think it was a high voltage battery that was used to charge up the car.

Replacing the whole gauge unit sounds EXPENSIVE!!! I don't even know if i can get the insurance people to pay for their fault!!!

Blittzz, your suggestion seems reasonable. The meter DOES want to go up more, but the black pin is blocking it. i am not sure if Nissan shop would do that for me.

You can find a used cluster for about $150-$300. That's if it is the cluster and not the sender unit.

I have a feeling that the sender unit and even the needle gear are working properly. I just need to find a way to move the needle over the black pin. Any of you guys have idea of doing that?

i think there is a way to pop the plastic screen off of the gauage clutster, somebody did it a while ago to change the led's behind there. I will look for it for you, maybe he has instructions on how to get the cover off.

alright well i found the post, but the user did not include any instructions. I bumped it up and requested that he make a short DIY on how to remove the cluster cover.

Here is the link that will take you to the post:

You need to unscrew the entire cluster..screws are underneath your steering column, its a 5 min job to do..

I have a full DIY guage cluster teardown with pics I will post up for ya in the next couple of days. It looks like your needle just needs to be reset around since it is hitting the "E" stopper on start.

This sounds way better than replacing the gauge or cluster! This is what Driver is all about, members helping one another....

Cluster is held up by like few bolts it takes about 15 mins to remove it pretty easy job. Looks like your needle needs to be pushed the other way.
