synthetic oil change?
i went to get my oil changed for the first time today. i searched through some posts and ended up geting lazy. normal oil changes they use 3 quarts of conventional oil right? i had a box of six mobil 1 bottles in my trunk. the tech said he needed 5 quarts for the oil change. is that right? and also they put a sticker on my windshield for 6750 miles. is that just the standard scheduled maintenance or how long is it that i could go before i need another. i'm seeing 5-7.5 in posts
just let me know...thanks

Re: synthetic oil change?
5qts is right. Assuming you have alot of highway mileage, 6000 may be ok. If you have any large percentage of city mix, 6000 will be too optimistic. Well, I guess that really depends on how much wear is acceptible to you.
Some of us have our oil analyzed. You can look at some of the results and decide for yourself

Yeah, youre running syn and syn can be good to 12,500 in *some* cars. But not on a vq35. You'll hear people make alot of assumptions about syn, but you can see from Blackstone reports, you cant run it in *our* cars that long. But you'll get great protection for the interval you do use.
The quantity and filtration dont allow syn to really be used to its interval full potential. Dont let people tell you can run up to 7K w/o keeping an eye on it. After 3-4K, you will most likely lose a quart before getting to that 7K mark. Just be attentive or you'll end up like some of those recent posters needing new engines.
