Help with gas tank
Hi everyone, I just bought a 04 6MT coupe and everything is great. Only problem I am having is that when I fill up at the gas station the pumps always stop at 8/10 full. Anyone has this problem?
There was a TSB for this.... the problem is a faulty fuel filler neck that doesn't return the expelled vapors properly to the stations fuel pump so that the safety shutoff doesn't engage. What year is your car? If it's less than 3 years old, this should be covered under warranty.
My car is a 04 so I guess Im out of luck. This sucks. I guess I will just fill it up to where ever it can go up to.

Wicked ghetto!.. but if you're ever planning on doing a really long trip and you need to get every last mile out of a tank between stops, you could do this to make sure you get it all the way full. Just be real careful the first time you do it because you don't want to overfill it and spill gas everywhere.... it's bad for your paint, and if you ever get it on your plastic lenses for the taillights, they'll start to crack unless you wipe it off immediately.
Hm. Same problem here (I've only filled up 3 times. Heh). Too high of a fill up to worry about extra condensation, so I just fill it until it pops the vapor cutoff on the tank and deal with it.
I had a smilar problem but noticed it more with certain gas stations. I told dealer about it and their answer was to not use those gas stations. Lame. I will have to bring this up with them again as I am never able to fill up all the way anymore.
i got the same problem. glad i'm not alone. i have an 04 so warranty is out of the question. anyone have this fixed out of warranty? and cost?
I'm okay with 9/10 full tank but... why not 10?
If it's worth it to fix it then I will get it done. if more than 200 bucks then forget it...

Yeah, it was a recall and if you're car is still under warranty then there is no problem fixing it. They replaced and havent had any problems. Also, adjusting the way that you put the pump into your gas tank filler neck, i figured a method to where I guess it lets the vapors escape so adjust it a little and it might work. But dealership had no problem replacing it for me....plus I was lucky that the gas gauge floater broke at the same time because they fixed it for me for free also and I had their nice rental a little longer
