Oil change

Hi guys,

Just curious, where do you get your oil changed and how much? This is not something I like to do myself since it's usually only ~$30. I'm in Orange County and this would be my first oil change on a G, just got it recently.

I was thinking of trying a OC Nissan dealership (Infinity's kinda far).. Thanks

Do it yourself. Easier, cheaper, and you have the satisfaction of doing it right. When I bought my car, the seal to the oil pan had been ruined by the previous owner taking the car to a quick change oil place. Never again!!

it'll cost you 30 bucks max to do it yourself expect to pay a bit more than that at a stealership. infiniti costs somethin like 55. dont know about nissan tho...

Oil changes my way....!

I can tell you how I do oil changes, buy my Red Line synthetic from Napa and order my K&N filters on line. (five at a time for free shipping) Then I take my G to a friends shop and he changes it for $10. By doing it this way I can clean the undercarriage/wheels and check tire pressure while oil is draining. If this doesn't work for you Nissan charges considerably less for every thing compared to most Infiniti stealerships. Synthetic is way better for your G than conventional oil....

I agree. Those places are sub-grade. Had to have my pan resealed. Then I had dripping oil. Maybe they didn't take the aerodynamic under-shield off - the old fuel filter can drip onto it and it runs off for a week or two. Nope. They messed up the pan somehow. They wanted just under $200 for a gasket and labor. There is no gasket for the lower oil pan, it's a $10.00 tube of Silver Silicone Sealer, some gasket seal remover solvent, a putty knife to scrape off the old and 10-bolts to remove and put back on.

They denied it was their fault. I'm not one to argue, I made my case and they finally saw it my way after all. I had them re-seal it under threat of me standing on the public sidewalk out front handing out discount cards and $10.00 bills of my own money to go down the street to a competitor. No oil pan leakage. Amazing.

I'm taking your guys' advice: Gonna do it myself from now on. Rhino Ramps - 8000 from Wal-Mart and Amazon for under $35.00, a good pair of jacks and a 3-ton floor jack for under $100.00. Problem solved!

Remember to drain the oil cooler also or there will be 1-2 qts. of dirty oil in it. fill cooler seperatly so nothing run dry when you first start it after an oil change. also, good time to plumb in a remote filter to replace the small stock one that is a pain to remove/replace. much bigger oil filer fram PH7 + more oil for your engine.

I change my oil when AutoZone has the Castrol Syntec and K&N oil filter for 35 bucks, I usually buy it right at the end of the sale if I still got miles to go on my current oil.

+ 1 on tha idea. Castrol 0W-30 and a K&N filter is right around $30 here in big D. I have about ten oil changes stocked in my garage. I beleive Mobil 1 at an Infiniti dealership is $90 around here. Do the math, it's a cheap deal to do yourself, (or pay a buddy to do it for you).

I a lot of DIY stuff but when it's a $100+ elsewhere. For oil I'll take it to Nissan dealer and post my impressions.

I don't think it's worth the time plus I don't have the drain container and ramps. If it were a BMW $150 oil chane yea I'd do I myself

Avoiding the risk of some high school drop out grease monkey f-ing up my car is worth my 30 minutes to do an oil change myself. Drain containers are dirt cheap at Autozone and Wal-Mart. Autozone takes used oil free of charge 7 days a week. Someone already posted that Rhino ramps are only like $35 a pair.

Just admit that you are a sissy and don't want to get oil on your hands.
