Speeding Ticket.
Re: Speeding Ticket.
ok, now, kids are gonna hurt, keep some ambesol, robitussin, motrin, and WHISKEY (works great for teething) around and you don't have to make that trip.
but back on topic, you have no defense with your story of why you were speeding. I got ticketed for a 90 in a 50 in arizona (different laws) and was able to attend school. anything over 85 here is a criminal (vice civil) charge (misdemeanor).
suck it up and keep the speed out of the law's eyes.

Re: Speeding Ticket.
I just find it somewhat ironic that a guy who calls himself Supercharged6MT is preaching about the evils of speeding. Don't get me wrong, he makes a valid point, but you have to admit that it's funny.

"your daughters teeth coming in and her crying due to the fact doesnt justify doing 80mph... If I was the judge, I'd hit you with court costs as well just for wasting the courts' time....
In all honesty, getting to your daughter faster isn't going to miraculously make her teeth disappear and the pain magically go away. I woulda kept going to walmart and got her one of those cold packs that they give kids to put in their mouth to calm the pain, instead of doing 25mph+ over the limit to get there endangering your life and those around you....as well as giving your daughter the oppertunity of growing up without a father... "

Dude, she is just teething. Freeze her teething ring, the coldness will ease her pain.

Re: Speeding Ticket.
In my jurisdiction (I'm an Assistant District Attorney), the judge will make a defendant get an attorney over a charge like this. It can cost you your license. Wait until your first court appearance and talk to the judge, ask him your rights, see what he'll do. Ask him IF you were to plead guilty, would he reduce it, but don't go into details that will incriminate you. Its all on the record.... If he'll do nothing, figure under $1500 for an attorney.

Re: Speeding Ticket.
About the ticket get a lawyer. It's still going to be expensive but you will end up better off in the end.
About going 90 your probably guilty as I frequiently am.
The cops and the judges have heard it all. Teething is no excuse. If you use that as an excuse it will probably only make things worse. I have an 8mo. old so I understand your thoughts. Playing the race card makes about as much sence as the teething excuse.

Re: Speeding Ticket.
roneski,
What exactly does owning a Supercharged G35 have to do with speeding? I dunno how things are in your part of town, but in FL we have race tracks for speeding and pushing your vehicle to the limits.
And for the record, the Supercharged6MT is only my username, if you read my profile, you'd understand that the supercharger is NOT on yet, but someday it shall be...
And as far as being a jerk... I guess you can be the one explaining to his kid that her father is dead, then you can call me a jerk for posting the way i did. Being THI (Traffic Homicide Investigator), we tend to do this often....

Re: Speeding Ticket.
The irony he's pointing out is that if you have (or are getting) a supercharger then speeding will probably happen (did I really need to explain that?).
Regardless, if you read my post from the link, do what I suggest. Try to get it dropped on your own and then if you've got an adament officer just get a traffic lawyer. Since you don't go to court often you won't know how certain judges act, this is why a lawyer from that county is great. Any decent lawyer will know what judge to get and there are a million things they can get dropped on. Don't get scared by lawyer fees, I've never heard of anyone paying $1500 for a traffic lawyer over a speeding ticket. In one county mine costs $125 and the other county its $250; I don't have to go to court for either of them and they always get dropped.
I would not recommend talking to the judge about what he will do if you plead guilty versus not guilty and get convicted. They crank out a lot of cases each day and they don't have time to delegate each one, just watch how he handles others and yours will be the same if you want to go that route. If you want you can talk to the prosecuter (before your called), but from my experience they've never been helpful. The last time I talked to the state prosecuter she told me that they would definitely not drop the charge, and a month later she was calling me up to tell me it was dropped. So whatever, every state, county, court, and the people who operate it are going to be a little different. Sometimes it's like going to the DMV and sometimes it's not all that unpleasant. More or less though you won't want to get tickets anymore because you don't want to deal with the hassle of the court system and don't want to pay lawyer fees.
In the future remember that if your going to get a ticket politly refuse all the cops questions. Legally all you have to is identify yourself. If you think being frank might get you off go for it, but that's your call.
Also, from my experience the state just cares about $$$ and cops about the tickets they write (to get more $$$). Surprisingly enough I have successfully talked cops out of giving me moving violations (i.e. speeding tickets) in exchange for equipment violations. They still get to write a ticket ($$) and I don't have to call my lawyer. Plus they are always <100 so it's cheaper and easier for me as well =)
Although I could see how this could terribly backfire, but it's something to think about next time you see the lights =)

Take it easy man. I didn't call you a jerk, I said that your point was valid albeit somewhat ironic.
As to what a supercharged 6mt has do with speeding... you may as well ask what a helicopter has to do with flying. It's possible that you, in your daily driving, never exceed the speed limit, but I am friends with plenty of cops so I'll just leave it at that.
And just fyi, I am a traffic technician and part of my job is investigating serious accidents that happen within 500 ft of a traffic signal in town so I've seen my share fair of fatals.
Edit: Decided to tone down the post a little. Deleted a few lines.
