Well I live in Houston with daily traffic but even then I get 21-22 mpgs all the time. Ive measered it like 6 times since I've gotten it. I dont know how you can get 15.. maybe you do need to have it checked. plus I shift at around 2500 - 3000 rpms

 

i think you bought the wrong car. Sell it and get a civic.

 

How are you measuring it? Don't know how you can get that much in traffic.

Well, this "You should get a civic" is getting on my nerves....Can't get any more retarded than that comment. Freakin annoying bro! I had a 96 civic hatch, type r modded with an h22 engine and some heavy mods and I loved it. I was 20, thats 8 years ago...let me find out about the car I currently own and stop with this stupid comment..."you should get a civic"...blah blah blah...and its always a newbie too and the only thing they know is that they drive an Infinity, if asked any other technical question related to the car...they're like "I don't know dude" So shut the heck up on this post. Miami: just get a basic tuneup and check to see how your airfilter is, check spark plugs/injectors... check tire pressure. shift if you can below 2400rpm and the like.

I'll be doing that this Saturday...I'm already at half of the tank and 103 miles driven, I guess I'm getting even worse. Well, lets see how next week will be. I'll make all the changes and measure the mpg again.

 

I watched a video where this one guy put 100% commercial grade acetone in his car and got much better gas mileage. When I asked my organic chemistry professor why this was, he shrugged and guessed that it was because of the extra oxygen in the system that probably helped with combustion. There are a lot of people that swear that this works without adverse effects to your car. now before i get my head chopped off for suggesting that putting in a $8 bottle for 12 fluid oz's of acetone is viable for replacing a $3 /gallon of gas, you only put in about 1 fl. oz. per 10 gallons of gas.

Oh, I also did a research paper on the effects of ethanol on gas mileage, E85 is terrible for gas mileage. so I theorized that even 10% can make a difference. Also, the mythbusters found out that windows down/no AC was more fuel efficient at speeds lower than 45 mph.

I have a stock 06 g35 coupe and I'm averaging around 15 mpg when Ellie wants to stretch. Highway average (~80mph) is around 24 mpg and city average is about 18 mpg for me.

I drive an almost dead-even split between highway and city (probably a tad more city), and average about 21mpg.

I have my REV indicator light set to flash at 3200RPM to remind me to save that gas! I also check my tire pressure regularly and have regular oil changes, and had my air filter replaced a few months ago.

All in all, I can't complain. I knew what I was getting into when I bought the car.

 

good info, yeah I'd never put acetone in my tank to save my life.. that stuff does horrible stuff to the motor.

 

TBH, I probably need to change my spark plugs, and I do plan on seafoaming my entire engine in the next few weeks. Hopefully that'll put me closer to 18, but I'm doing it mostly for performance ;D
