Re: 2005 Changes New from Infiniti

from my understanding with my insurance company, once a car hits the 300hp threshold, it increases in insurance. Just as a comparision, my STi was costing substantially more than the g35 per month. It could be beacuse of other factors, but the 300hp plays a part in it too.

Hmmm...I don't know whether to be pissed or not, I just bought mine, but got a pretty good deal on it, plus it was a lease, Power reclining is huge I think, HP bump doesn't matter cause I have an auto., Drilled pedals are easy enough to put on, I'm probably going to upgrade my stereo so the MP3 isn't that great, the only thing I think I wish I waited for is the Gray Leather interior, but even with Gray, my interior on my old car would super get dirty and thats why I went with the black. 19" rims seem interesting, but then again, they are now polished and my 18's seem to match the DG color perfectly, so I think I'm happy with the way I went.

Re: 2005 Changes New from Infiniti

-Fanatic,

I doubt the 300 hp has anything to do with it. It's probably just a poor accident ratio with all of the young men (under 25) who buy this car, wreck it, and drive insurance premiums higher.

I'm 32 years old, and when I was considering purchasing a 333 hp, E46 M3 last year, the insurance was almost identical to what I would have to pay for the G. Cross shop several cars and you'll see what I mean. A Z06 costs less to insure than a C5 convertible and the Z06 has much more hp (but it has a roof too)...

The above statements are only my take on the issue. If you disagree with anything I typed then you are 100% right!

Re: 2005 Changes New from Infiniti

I am still waiting for some ideas on how they plan on making up that 18hp. Even with $3,000 worth of mods, our cars have trouble making 5 additional hp. Can someone try and shed some light on this? It sounds impressive but thinking logically I have to think that there is alot of smoke and mirrors involved in that. The previous V motor made 222 and to get it to 260 they added an extra half LITER of displacement. This motor seems stretched to the max and without FI I am dying to know how they're doing this. ECU makes some sense and is also a mod that we'd certainly be able to do to our pre-2005 G's to make them virtually identical.

Everyone is right, auto-reclining seats is awesome but in all honesty, aside from fully reclining in the heat of the moment with a chick, I haven't moved my seat once since I got the car. Truthfully I can't understand why this wasn't on the 03-04's. No sleep lost on the seats...

Another gripe I have is that I was totally pumped to hear about 19's for the 6MT but when I saw them it made me thank my lucky stars I got one the last 04's (saving thousands of $$)because those new rims are LAME.

Aluminum trim? yay, couldn't care less (not to sound negative about it but I didn't even notice it was plastic until a few days ago, so clearly it's not that big of a deal). The new guage cluster which noone has mentioned is also pretty sweet but still not enough to make me cry about having a 2004.

MP3...ok, you finally got me, I do really wish I had MP3 but if 6 discs of music isn't enough for you, you need to see a psychotherapist because you've got A.D.D.

Re: 2005 Changes New from Infiniti

Just wanted to add my $0.02...

Simply adding mp3 capability to the POS Bose/Clarion system won't make it sound better......didn't hear any mention of an upgrade to the sound system besides mp3. So you can play burnt mp3s....this will eliminate the need for an IPOD, PAC AUX IN units and its install headaches, FM modulators. Hopefully, Clarion and Infiniti will improve the CD's laser eye reading mechanism so that CD player won't have so many problems reading CD-R and CD-RW's as reported by many (but not all) of us. The sound quality, MP3 or not, will still sound like FM reception though if they don't upgrade the stock POS speakers. I wonder if the "premium" sound system will cost more b/c of the mp3 addition?!?!? Then, the question will be whether or not to get the more expensive "premium" BOse system or just scrap it b/c you know you're going to spend ~$2K on a whole new sound system anyway.....hmmmmmm

Aluminum trim in the console is very nice. It will make it more sporty and luxurious but WILL complicate the doubleDIN conversion. There will probably be a more expensive v35 Nissan Skyline dash piece to replace the stock one and potentially limit the ability to trim/dremmel double DIN space to fit some larger or irregularly fitting aftermarket HUs. For those of you wanting to have custom work done to add DVD screens, nav systems, etc, having an aluminum console will limit custom fiberglass fabrications too. But, from the looks of it, the nav cubby still looks like cheap plastic which makes my previous statement a moot point. But, if the behind-dash design remains the same, if you do install a AVIC N1 in the cubby space, you still might have to cut into the AC ducts behind the dash to fit a 6 7/8" deep HU.

We'll see, maybe I'll just have to order the 2005 aluminum doubleDIN piece from J's for the hell of it and play around to see if doubleDIN conversion will be feasable....

Re: 2005 Changes New from Infiniti

My 2 cents:
\Enhancements to the 2005 G35 Coupe include:

18hp is 18hp, the G35C now makes more power than a 350Z, which is insane marketting strategy on Nissan's part. I have no doubt those 18hp are real, too. It doesn't take much from VQ's to add 15-20hp throughout the years. (refer to VQ30 history and you'll see)

No mention of the word 'FORGED' on the 19" rims... still, I am itching with anticipating to get my hands on a set of those. I hope it looks real good.

The new interior with real aluminum and the two tone grey/black scheme is to die for. I have no problem with the current interior, but the new one looks GREAT on picture.

Aluminum pedals.... you mean, finally?·
Power recline..... so now rear passengers have to wait 10 seconds for the seats to recline up, and then another 10 seconds to recline down. Not to mention the motor probably just added another 20lbs to the car. Oh well, the price of perceived luxury.

I gotta say the 2005 is very tempting, but it's not worth the money I'd lose on trade-in. (Actually I am only saying that because I have no money left, thus saying that to make myself feel better in a sort of sour lemon justification way) Not to mention Smurf Blue has now been replaced with Everybody's Blue, which is another step Infiniti is taking to bring the G35 to a more mainstream position on the market place. Respectable decision, but I rather have CB any day.

Re: 2005 Changes New from Infiniti

I like everything about the 2005 except that the wheels don't look good and no more Brembos (still not confirmed).

Just remember everyone....once the '05's come out, there may be some parts that 03 & 04 cars can just bolt on/retrofit! Hopefully I can get the new stereo w/ mp3. My tape deck is WORTHLESS.

Everyone think of this too.

Throw an '05 on the dyno, THEN see what you get. Many car companies recently have misstated their HP output. Maybe this car *is* a 300hp car, but Infiniti will only officially tell us 298.

Re: 2005 Changes New from Infiniti

Like others, I'm anxious to see how the 18hp is being freed up.

NISMO's S-Tune package includes cams, heavy-duty valve-springs, intake, exhaust and ECM reflash which also increases rev-limit to 7200rpm. Nissan says this NISMO S-Tune package results in an 18hp increase. The road-test editor said it felt like more than 18hp.

This just complicates things for me. Would Nissan really make all of the above changes for an 18hp increase for the '05s? If the 18hp is found easily within the ECM, what gives with NISMO's 18hp increase claim with all the additional parts? Could Nissan have limited NISMO's S-Tune power production until after the '05s hit?

BAH! Somebody find an answer already!! LOL

'05 IP(or ?) 6MT... ...Never too soon to think about modifications!!

On the power reclining seats-you'd assume that Nissan finally figured how to make a power recline seat that also has a quick release latch...like my 1998 Accord Coupe had on the driver's side. I actually couldn't believe it when I found out that our 03-04 G's didn't have this simple "feature".

P_Diddy, your retrofit for the MP3-capable radio looks like a lost cause. From the pictures that have been released it looks like the hole is bigger. There may still be hope if you feel like replacing the whole dash with the aluminum dash of the 2005 (provided ALL other buttons are in the exact same place). Lets not forget exactly how much a factory radio will cost. My guess is WELL over $1,000 and then you can factor in the dash which I'm sure won't be cheap. I really don't think anyone can justify that kind of money just to swap a cassette player for MP3 capabilities.

Re: 2005 Changes New from Infiniti

It's funny how the infinitinews site still has it listed as an est 15 hp increase and the nissannews has the more updated info of 18hp

I wish the would have done a aux in or something you could hardwire an IPOD to instead of this mp3 playback. That is one thing BMW is offering on all there cars now, from what I understand. I really want to illiminate all cds from my car and just use my IPOD but it is not worth me taring apart the dash and installing a new aftermarket system to achieve it.

Re: 2005 Changes New from Infiniti

The aluminum console/dash sounds nice, however, before I bought my G, I was looking at the 04 Acura TL, which has brushed aluminum for its interior trim.....one of their biggest gripes on their Forum was that the aluminum dents when something hits it. Also, the aluminum conduct and retains heat more than the plastic. Thus, eventhough I think it looks better than the 03/04 plastic, I don't know how the 'live-ability' will be on the aluminum trim.
