Painted Grill & Emblems / Smoked Tails *PICS

Just got done tinting the tails for a darker red "smoked" look... Also decided to paint the trunk Mt Fuji black, and I'm going to paint the front one black as well. In the pictures it is color matched to the car - (Done with with touch up paint and a cheap home depot sprayer)

The grill was done with "Diamond Black Metallic" which has a lighter tone to it, also metallic flakes and whatnot which give it a nice shine. Did the trunk emblem with regular gloss black, which is what the front emblem just got hit with as well.

The tail lights are exactly the same shade... the reflection makes it look off, but its not.

And yes... I know. The door guards are the next thing to come off. The only thing I am worried about is darker paint underneath being that the car is 5 years old, but I didn't have that problem with the trunk de-badging. Also not looking forward to trying to get all that glue / foam tape stuff off from underneath either.

I'll help you get the glue off. You need a hair dryer, clay, wax and goo gone.

you forgot to spray the third brake light on the wing!

what did you use to smoke the tails? can you remove the paint from them if you wanted?(like paint thinner or acitone)

also, where did you get the paint for the grille and taillights?

I got everything at advanced auto parts except the metallic black that i used on the grill. The stuff used to smoke the tails was VHT Nite Shade. If you need to remove it, its very simple. Just get some graffiti remover from Home Depot. Spray it on, let it sit for 20 seconds, and wipe off. Most, if not all of the paint will come right off very easily. I ended up going too dark the first time around and had to do this, and it doesn't damage the plastic on the tails at all.

I purposely didn't spray the third brake light. It's never on unless you're braking, in which case, I want it to be very visible... lol. Besides the fact that you can't really see it or tell that it's different anyway.

Awesome...I need to try the spraying the tails in the near future. I like your look of the smoked darker maroon tails over the jet black ones I see done. So are you saying if you don't like how it turns off, it'll completely wipe off??

VERY easily. Go to home depot and buy this:

When you spray it on, it will foam up nice and good.. give it 15-20 seconds. Don't be afraid to apply a nice even coat as if you were painting. Then just give it a good wipe with a rag... comes right off with little to no effort. Doesn't do any damage to the red plastic cover on the tail light either.

I did three medium coats and its a tad darker than I imagined, but I like it.
