Sunrood Problems

Hey guys,
I tried searching through the threads, but couldn't really get any hits with this one. A few days ago my sunroof started getting really dodgy. I'd originally tilted it up, but then it wouldn't untilt for me. After parking the car and leaving it for a while, the sunroof would close/untilt, but I couldn't get it to retract. I've been driving the car since and it's continued to be unpredictable. At one point the roof wouldn't respond to any input, but at another it would tilt and then not fully untilt, leaving it slightly open. When you tilt it all the way it makes a knocking noise if the tilt switch is pushed again. Sorry if my post is confusing, but I was hoping someone might have some input with this one.

Is there a possibility the sunroof motor needs to be replaced? I don't think the roof is off the track. Has anyone had problems similar to this?

Sounds like the motor's gone, do you ever clean or lube the channels. I do that every 90 days just to keep everything working without noise/rattles....

Thanks Gary. I've never tried greasing anything up there. Do you have any idea how much labour is involved in replacing the motor? Is it a potential DIY?

After doing a bit more digging, I think the sunroof problems were caused by one battery terminal working its way loose while driving. A while back I saw a motor reset procedure, but can't seem to dig it up again. Could a battery terminal going bad cause the roof to become out of sync or cause the motor to grind. I'm hoping that by resetting the motor I'll solve the problem. Anyone know the procedure?

Once you figure out how to do the reset take WD40 on a rag and carefully clean everything. Battery terminal could have caused all kinds of issues including how your G runs....G/L
