Suggestions: Lost all sets of keys, no spares car is currently in the middle of town!

Hi

I have 2006 350GT, imported from japan, only came with 1 x key. Never got 2nd electronic key made. I think I have a mechanical copy of the original key (but i'm not 100% sure).

Car is currently in town parked. Dealership is closed. I am thinking I will leave it overnight then get it towed to the dealership. I rang the dealership briefly before they closed, they suggested a locksmith that might be able to do it, but unfortunately he tells me he has no way to get past the transponder.

So basically i have a car parked in town, I have no keys or spare sets. I might have a copy of the key shape.

This really sucks. Please don't bother with flaming me for my mistakes, as I know what they are already. I need suggestions on what the best course of action is to take (I no this is going to be a costly exercise, hopefully covered by my insurance).

Mike

you can get keys and transponders on ebay I believe.. locksmith can cut the keys and possibly program the key (not sure) and I think there's a DIY for programming the transponder, but it may require you to have one already (so this might mean dealership) but if anything, I'd buy the keys/transponders online then have the dealer program as a last resort

All the keys on ebay are for g35, not sure if they work for 350gt. In the past I've tried american electronic keys for my nissan primera and they didn't work with my japanese primera.

Do it right and have it towed to the dealer. Will be an expensive mistake, but maybe a good lesson for you. I'll bet you never make the same mistake again!

Must be an awful locksmith. Considering I work for a locksmith company and we keep transponders on hand. It is pretty costly to have a locksmith come out and make one though. It would probably be considerably less than getting it towed to a dealership and paying dealership prices. And if you do manage to find the metal mechanical key it would drop the price even more, since the locksmith wouldn't have to do anything but dupe the key and program the transponder. Instead of pulling a lock cylinder from the door and manually making a key.

I asked on ebay, apparently the ebay usa keys actually work on the same frequency as the japanese version (315mhz).

The reason they don't have transponders is probably because my car is not sold in this country, and Nissan don't import second hand ones either, so it's pretty rare to see a 350gt in New Zealand.

Well i found my old cut out of the key, so i was able to enter the car and disable the steering lock, but when i turn the key the starter motor goes but the car wont start, and the security light flashes red. So I've had the car towed to nissan. Hopefully they are able to reporgram the car without pulling it apart too much. It's gonna be tricky, because they are not used to my car, and will probably need to get instructions from Japan. They will also need to get new keys from japan too.
