Infiniti G35 turbocharged

Hey guys, I'm thinking of buying an 04 G35 turbocharged. Here are the specs from the seller.....

Turbonetics Turbo kit, purchased from Turbokits.com, a kintex ssv racing manifold, and a borla exhaust, also had a UTEC put in when the car was tuned, also has a 3 gauge pod with Oil Pressure, Boost, and Water Temp. This car is the most loaded you can buy from the factory has everything including Nav.

The Check Engine Light is on, talked to my tuner told him the codes and he said its probably just a vacuum leak minor fix car still runs fine.

So I was wondering is their any danger in buying this car? Its an automatic, but was wondering if the turbocharger can effect the engine or put any stress on the car? I don't wanna buy this thing and then have to dump a bunch of cash into it all the time. Also any1 know what UTEC is?

I wouldnt buy a forced induction car if you have no idea what to expect from these setups...

Hit the FI section for some better feedback. Better yet, the FI section on my350z...maybe just read lots over there before you/rather than post. Not very tolerant over there IIRC.

Pass. Especially if you don't know much about forced induction yourself. What're you gonna do when something goes wrong? You won't have a clue what it is, and it's not as if you can take it to any random mechanic. If the vaccuum leak is a "minor" fix, why hasn't he fixed it already? I doubt the car can be running perfectly with a leak.

I agree. If it's a minor problem, the seller would have fixed it before selling. He's probably selling it because there's something wrong with it and he doesn't want to deal with it.

I would personally pass on it, the car is probably beaten already hence the seller turbo charged it...to go fast....

Best bet is to find a clean g35 with nothing wrong with and go FI.

Ya, I agree the check engine light does bother me a bit. If it was a small problem I would assume he would fix it. But I can buy this car for about $12,500 CAD. It has 77,000 miles on it and apparently the mods were about $17,000 worth. It seems to be a sweet deal.

If you really are serious about buying this car, spend a little money and take it to a reputable shop that has experience with forced induction on our cars, and have them check it out. They'll tell you what things need to be replaced/fixed and then you can talk to the seller about lowering the price on the car since you'll have to repair it.

Personally, I'd never buy a modded car, let alone a F.I. car. There's just waaaaaay too many parts involved that might have been installed incorrectly. But good luck!

Dude, you're just screaming for trouble if you have no experience or clue about FI. I know enough to be dangerous and even I wouldnt buy one because all my knowledge comes from Hondas. Granted, FI in essence is FI, however I know nothing about block strength or internals strength/composition in these nissan motors.

Im going to assume the UTEC is what they used for tuning. Is this a piggy back? Or is it a standalone system? Sounds like a piggy back if it is anything. But, again, Im not versed in this stuff with the nissan engine so who knows. With a piggy back you run into all sorts of problems, like how is it programed? Who did it? Did they just mess with AFRs? Was timing pulled/retarded? How is fuel being managed? Is the stock pump even efficient enough for any kind of boost? Was the pump upgraded? What about the injectors; were they swapped out?

So many questions, and in your case (and please dont take offense) but so little knowledge. Id say stay away or pay the cheese to get it checked out with a fine toothed comb by someone in the import tuning field. Also I would start reading NOW and continue to read until you answer all of your own questions and you know more about FI.

The turbonetics turbo is usually a ticking time bomb....but if you really want it have your tuner do a compression and leak down test first. If that checks out good have him run it on the dyno and see how safe the tune is and go from there.

ok well i'm gonna do my own research in the FI section, btw the people who installed and tuned the kit is Innovative tuning in Kenmore, NY. Don't know if that means anything to any1, lol. I can get the car for like $12,000 CAD, but i'll check out the FI section first

UTEC is a piggy back i think.

If you want a fast car, you should look at different cars. G35 are not really meant to go that fast.....

You should look into EVO/STI.

its just not worth it to build the G.

When you can get a supra or those other car and make way more power with less amount of money.

g35 is all about elegance to me, i don't want to change the subject, but i'd say its fast enough stock for the most of us....sure i'd enjoy another 30-50 horsepower and a light turbo would be the right route for that, but its not worth the headache and costs when you can buy other cars for cheaper if you want more hp (like 400). G35 is also somewhat heavy and shifting is not as smooth as other cars. Want a fast flashy sports car, buy a 01-03 vette, thats what i was looking at before.

Think about what you need in a car ex: daily driver, gas mileage, reliability, winter?, high maintenance?

Then think about what you want: speed, looks, feel, handling etc.

Remember theres not neccacarly right or wrong answer, just different, its all up to you, if you get this car, there is probably no doubt that within 6-12 months you will know a fair amount about FI, it could be a learning experience as well, so don't let these guys tell you off about this car..

but make sure you check it out, cause if the engines close to blown and the turbos a pos and the rest of the cars in poor condition then 12K canadian is still a ripoff. I paid close to 24K Canadian for mine (mines from the states), its worth about 26-27 i would estimate based on my condition.
