quick plenum spacer question

first and foremost...i did a search and could really find the answers i was looking for...so

lookin at motordyne's website at the copper iso thermal spacers...i noticed that the 1/2'' spacer is said to make about another 1 to 1.5 hp over the 5/16''...but it seems that most people use the 5/16 more often...is there any other reason other than that small difference in hp and an extra 50 bucks?

From what I've read, the 1/2 makes a tad bit more power at the top of the powerband, meaning you would need to rev it out to feel it.

I went with the 5/16 because I didn't want to have to redline the thing just to have some fun on the street.

The way I interpret the dynos on the md website 5/16 will have slightly more low to midrange power than the 1/2. 1/2 has more top end.

also if anyone could clear it up...whats the difference between the regular 5/16th iso thermal spacer and the copper one? i know its recommended to use the copper if it snows in your area but whats the real deal? is it worth the extra 40 bucks and any better? thx

someone correct me if I'm wrong.

when you say 5/16 iso thermal spacer and copper one, you've just mentioned three separate things.

#1. 5/16 & 1/2 spacers = made of the same material.

#2. ISO thermal = intake manifold gasket

#3. Copper One = spacer that sits by the throttle body.

I would assume there is a benefit, considering motordyne's track record. I live in Arizona, so there was no way on earth I was putting that on.

The purpose of the copper spacer is to prevent ice formation in very cold temps by heating the throttle body.

Check motordyne's website and study the photos so you can identify each part and what they offer. They are very good at explaining exactly what part does.

If I was in a colder climate, I'd get it. It's $45.... you know?

Correct with the 1/2" spacer you're going to lose the engine cover, doesn't fit. If you were smart enought to buy a upper strut bar that was adjustable it will still work....Richies etc.

You need to understand one simple fact, heat or hot air kills HP in our engines! By seperating the lower plenum with a copper gasket it stays slightly cooler. I bought it because of where I live and the possibility of warm to hot temps year round....I've worn shorts on Christmas. You should do fine with the 5/16" spacer, the two larger spacers just cause issues....

haha i appreciate the input but all im wonderin is the difference between the two spacers you can buy...on the motordyne website there is
1) 5/16ths iso thermal plenum spacer and then theres...
2)5/16ths COPPER iso thermal plenum spacer

just wondering if there was any substantial difference between the two...but its worth it i guess for the winters here in NJ...rather not risk it for another 40 bills

thx again
