Noob Coilover Install Questions
Hey guys wondering if some of you guys who have dared to tackle coilover installs in a G can help out.
Anyway picked up a used set of stance coilovers from a local guy, says he did not install him himself, and he has no documentation.
Questions:
I got the front installed fine no issues.
Now I installed the rear and this has been driving me crazy. I am getting this noise, like a clunking sound. I am trying everything to get rid of this noise.
Now for buddy club style coilovers, and stance, are you supposed to remove the other spring on the rubber cone? I see that TEINs or other types have a spring and a collar you can insert in its place, but if i am correct, and correct me if I am wrong, my type of coilover, I should leave this spring in.. right?? or should it be removed....
Second part to my question is, I seem to be getting a clunking noise. I am assuming this is having something to do with this second spring, or maybe the upper mount, (metal on metal contact, something is loose?) But as for the mounting points, all my stuff is tight.
I would appreciate any help on the issue if you lads or lasses can chime in, ive spent more hours then I would care to take on this...

Yea guys, originally stock spring was still in there, making the clunking noise... however me and my two ASE certified mechanic friends took them out, the clunking sound is still occuring but to a lesser degree... However we were not sure if it should go there or not, (my friends usually deal with lifting suspension on trucks not lowering cars.) But yes I think they are a true coilover setup, The upper pillow ball mount, on top, is followed by the spring, andthen the other two locking rings...) The spring is only a little bigger than the tube...
I have the clunking sound too...
I want to say it has something to do with the upper mounts but I haven't been able to pinpoint it.
I have Stance GR+ but with OEM style rear so I'm in for a resolution

Check all your bolts, sway bar, spring buckets, camber arms, etc and check the condition of the bushings while your at at. Make sure everything is torqued and nothing got missed.

Please be aware that pillowball bearings and solid mounts create a metal-on-metal contact so NVH will increase compared to OEM style suspension. It can also exacerbate existing noises that were masked by OEM suspension. However, if the coilovers are unusually loud, there may be a few reasons why your coilovers "clunk." The most common problem is the top locking nut is not torqued properly. The torque spec for the top locking nut is 55 ft/lbs for inverted type and 35 ft/lbs for non-inverted type. An impact gun on the low impact setting can be used for the inverted type damper only, otherwise hold the shaft in place so it does not rotate while torquing the top nut. Please make sure the shaft is protected so it does not become scratched.

So are you trying to say for a true coilover setup, I should remove the spring and the rubber thing? Cause thats exactly what I did, however I did not remove the rubber spring mount however, cause I didnt think this would dip low enough to make contact. Also, I read on the stance sites FAQ that this clunking sound might have come from as a result of this:

Thanks bro,
I will remove my rubber cone and try tightening down the nut on top of the pillow ball mount to spec tomorrow. I am looking forward to getting my car back on the road.... 1 week trying to pinpoint this problem is too long... And I hate riding the Gixxer early in the mornings to work.. >.< brr.
Wish me luck.

I have a non inverted type... I am thinking how I will hold the shaft in place.
I took both of my stance coil overs and put them next to each other and adjusted the height so it can be the same then I marked a line with a white permenant marker from the coilover to the collard. After I put them back, I made adjustments based on the number of turns from the white line, so both coilovers are the same on both sides even after I adjust it, makes sense?
