Steering wheel starting to chip???!!

Hello everyone,

After getting into my car this morning, I noticed there were some chips on the steering wheel! It was not scatched what so ever and I just purchased the car about a month ago. At first, I thought that it was a stain but after looking closely, they were small circle shaped chips. Is anyone else having these kind of problems? Is it possible I can bitch at Infiniti?

Thanks

Is the leather chipping off? That's wierd. I remember someone was having problems with his steering wheel a while back. Yes, here it is. It doesn't really sound like the same problem, but it might help.

Never heard of that. This might sound stupid... but do you wear any sort of rings? Perhaps a stone in one of your rings is making indentations in the leather?

I've noticed that my stick is starting to chip and I don't wear rings. Not sure what it is.

There is a 5 inch area where my hand usually rest on the steering wheel that is heavily worn. I am taking my car into the dealer this week about it.

Good luck trying to get the dealer to do something about the steering wheel. It's called normal wear and tear and not a warranty item

Bad leather isn't normal wear and tear. Cadillac used to be famous for how theirs would shrink and discolor. Take it to the dealer and if they refuse to fix it, file a complaint with your State. They love that!

Normal wear and tear if this happened after 2 years or so maybe... But not after only ONE month. Even GM replaced the leather on peoples seats because of the color rubbing off, leaving a grey patch. And that was after almost a year. One guy even got the dealer to pay for a deep-vat-dyed replacement instead of a spray-dyed replacement.

Re: Steering wheel starting to chip???!!

i just had to dealer replace my steering wheel because the stiching was coming apart. Ray Catena in NJ did it with no problem at all.

Re: Steering wheel starting to chip???!!

Raleigh dealership sent the service guy to our first meet and after taking a look at it said it would be no problem to replace for me.

Re: Steering wheel starting to chip???!!

I have an '03 coupe and I have had a chip on the leather in one spot on the steering wheel for months. It is actually quite irritating when your hand rubs over it while driving. I have forgotten to ask the dealer about it; but I would assume they would fix or replace it.
