New to G35, advice on purchasing

Hello all, my 1999 BMW 528i's engine just went out and instead of paying for the repair i am thinking about scrapping it and purchasing a g35 coupe.

they have a beautiful '04 g35 coupe with 61k miles on it, asking $15,990. First off, what should i offer them to start do you think? what do you think i could get down to? carfax is clean.
Second, should i be hesitant to purchase one of these cars with that many miles? at what point do they seem to decline?

any advice is appreciated, i have always loved these cars.
Thanks so much.

Take into consideration what a few more thousand dollars can get you. I got my G for $19K, its an 06 Black, very clean, non-nav, 40K, 6spd.

If your going to be making payments, what's a few more thousand? You'll get more bang for the buck.

Also, If I were you, I would consider at least an 05+ where the interior styling and brakes were changed.

yah i get what you're saying, but i was hoping to be able to get down to 14k, and a 5k difference is a pretty big deal.

I got my 04 with 56k miles for 15k with a set of Bridgestone Blizzaks thrown in for free. Original owner, no accidents.

i got my 04 for 1590 too and it also had 61k on it when i got it so i'd say its a pretty good deal. but the only reason i didn't care as much about the price was because i loved the car i found. Caribbean blue. If its a normal color i'd try to go down more.

I'd suggest you shop around more and find a private seller, cuz dealers will do anything to rip you off especially for this car since they're hard to get good deals on (depends on where you live), even being in Chicago I couldn't find any that I liked at my $15k limit..I just randomly found her one night on Cars.com after a deal I had made for a 04 Maxima went sour at the last minute. They say things happen for a reason, and you can bet I became a believer of that at that time..lol

yah, the only reason i want to buy from the dealer is because it's the bmw dealership and the guy who i've worked with over the years has always been very straightforward and honest with me, like whether or not the car is in good condition. and i know they have done a good inspection before putting it on the lot.
when it comes to a private seller you really aren't exactly sure what you are getting, which is what happened with my last car i got...apparently someone tried to fix the engine in the past, used a wrong sized piston, and a year after i bought it the engine fails on me.

The mileage is not that bad for an 04...as far as reliability...my G went 110,000 miles before I replaced the engine with a built Cosworth VQ35DE. As a side note my original engine was fine...no issues whatsoever...it ran strong till the day I pulled it.

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods
If the price you end up negotiating is is your budget that's a pretty good deal. As far as the mileage don't be concerned about 60K. There's a LOT of life left in that car if it was taken care of and continues to be.

Good luck and let us know how things turn out.

thanks for the responses guys, glad to hear 60k isn't much for these cars. hoping to hit at least ~130k without any real serious problems, provided proper maintenance. going to go to the dealership tomorrow and look at it, test drive it.
i'll let ya know how it goes.
