defogger timer - 04 model
Sorry if this question has been asked before... I did try and search but found no answers.
The defogger dash light comes on when I push the botton. The side mirrors and rear window get very warm and due the job fine. If I hit the button again the system turns off. That said, it does not shut off automatically. I let it run for 1 hour before I finally hit button to turn it off. I checked the owner’s manual it is does say there is a timer and should shut off in about 15 mins. If I turn off car and restart the system is in off mode.
I called the dealer and they said on early G35 models (03,04) there is no auto off timer. You must hit the switch to turn off. If fact the service writer said to me his wife has a 2006 FX35 and the defogger system also does not turn off automatically.
Can anybody that owns a 03/04 model tell me if they have to manually turn off defogger.
If there is an issue can somebody tell me where to look for problem?
Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure that mine shuts off automatically. My daily commute is less than 15 minutes, so I don't drive super long distances with regularity in my car with the defroster on... but whenever I drive the 25 minutes home from softball games in the fall and put the defroster on, it's usually off by the time I get home, and not due to me shutting it off.

The dealership is wrong. All year models shut off automatically. It is controlled by the BCM (Body Control Module) and IPDM E/R (Intelligent Power Distribution Module Engine Room) which may be checked using the "CONSULT-II" (computer tool) which any descent dealership shop should own. They need to hook it up and get a diagnostic read out. There is a relay that may be sticking, But I have no idea where it is located. Sounds like the dealership you are dealing with, either don't know what they are doing, or don't want to fool with your problem.

Did some more testing and the Rear Defogger does not auto shut off on my 04 coupe. Now that I think about it... I don't think it ever has shut off on it's own since I bought the car new. I did check owners manual and it states it does have auto shut off after 15 mins.
Everything else that has a time element... interior lights, wipers, ect... all work perfectly.
Seems like some people say that it goes off itself and others say it does not.
Confused
