Believe it or not, most people who frequent the oil forums and perform used oil analysis tests on their cars have reported that Mobil-1 synthetic oil tends to result in higher ferous compound levels in the used oil than other comparable class III synthetic oils and in some cases even higher than some non-synthetic oils. This is usually an indicator of increased valvetrain wear. It's always possible that there is some other reason why this is the case aside from valvetrain wear... but I'm not taking that chance in my G35 when I can go spend an extra 8-10 bucks per oil change and use a much higher quality oil that also doesn't exhibit that same trend of potentially non-minimized valvetrain wear(that's comparing the price of buying 5 1-quart containers of German Castrol 0W30 from Auto-Zone vs the price to go to Wal-mart and buy a 5-quart jug of Mobil-1 5W30 for $23).

The best one is royal purple so if you can find it buy it, its most expensive. Most use mobil 1 because it's in all stores and fair price. I use mobil 1 Extended performance.

Royal Purple isn't all that you'd think it's cracked up to be. If you do some research on UOA results from it, it's actually not impressive at all. You can buy it on the shelves of Wal-Mart... not that that's necessarily an indicator of it's quality, but how many other things do you buy at Wal-Mart that are top-quality items? If you're going to spend the money on Royal Purple, you're better off spending that money on Amsoil, German Castrol, Castrol Edge, Motul, or Redline oils.... they are far superior to Royal Purple in every measurable way.

German castrol. As someone mentioned earlier, this oil has shown favorable analysis results over the others you have mentioned.

I started using pennzoil platinum after I started reading up on the oil analysis on the 350z forum. It seemed like mobil 1 didn't do too well.

You can pretty much only buy it at Auto Zone, and it's a real Full Synthetic, unlike regular Castrol Syntec, Mobil 1 and most of the other "synthetic" oils that you can buy off the shelf.
Agreed.

Mobil 1 is junk and has spun more than one bearing in forced inducton applications as the oil thins and breaks down very quickly to something way thinner than it should be.

If anyone doesn't believe me, head over to any subaru forum (my other car is a turbo subaru). It's common knowledge there to NEVER use Mobil 1 or Redline as they are both total crap and will kill your engine over time.

Now granted, not many of you are running turbos, etc., but I figure why the heck would I put crap oil in my car?

So K Dub what oil would you recommend for NA engines? I'm genuinely interested in here. Most people I know, regardless of platform, use Mobil 1 but there's always a very vocal minority that swears against it.

My car has had Royal Purple for 18k miles, my next oil chance will be Pennzoil Platinum because I've read the oil thread on my350z claiming that it's best suited for the VQ35DE engine.

Any insight you can give would be great.

good explanations so far...i think im going with the type V synthetic oil... the good thing is thatmy car does not eat oil or anything at all. But still i want the best to make sure the engine gets the best treatment.

this was pulled off of my350. Green means better than one standard deviation, red means worse. Notice how Mobil 1 has several reds, while Castrol is mostly green.

That must be why the label on the Mobil 1 containers say 100% Full Synthetic....
