Realistically any oil is fine, as long as you change it in regular intervals. (I use Mobil 1)

Quote: That must be why the label on the Mobil 1 containers say 100% Full Synthetic....
Gary
It's a "full synthetic" by the definition that the oil industry uses, but it's a Class III synthetic. That basically just means it's not a synthetic blend... but doesn't mean that it's an elite quality or Class IV/V synthetic.

Quote: German Castrol 0W30... the only oil I use in my G35.

You can pretty much only buy it at Auto Zone, and it's a real Full Synthetic, unlike regular Castrol Syntec, Mobil 1 and most of the other "synthetic" oils that you can buy off the shelf.
+ 1,000,000 on that.
After exensive research I came to the exact same conclusion. They put it on sale at Auto Zone including a high quality oil filter for about 30 bucks. I have stocked up lots of it.

So, how often should you change your oil if using German Castrol?

thanks

I do mine at about 3700 miles. I'm sure I could go a LOT longer, but there's no need to push it. I also do a lot of short trips and back roads driving, about 6 miles each way to work... those are a lot rougher on your motor oil than longer trips and highway miles.

Quote: this was pulled off of my350. Green means better than one standard deviation, red means worse. Notice how Mobil 1 has several reds, while Castrol is mostly green.

After seeing the above

I went with Castrol Syntec it always goes on sale and protects well. Been running it since my first oil change when I got my car.

^ good call. I'm a scientist by profession, and for me, empirical evidence will always beat out subjective ones.

What is Mobile 1 Extended Performance, Class III still? Its rated at 15,000 miles which I would never try.

I do every 3,333 on my turbo Subaru only because it's a highly modified application.

I also used to run it on a honda civic and had several UOA's done by Blackstone. The first one I sent them at 3,500, they said it had a lot more life and to shoot for 5K next time. I sent them the oil after 5K and they told me to shoot for 7500 miles and noted that if that looked good to them after that, I might want to try for 10K. I just stuck with the 7500 as that was good enough me.

I plan on changing it every 5K in the G.
