Selling the G...

Hello All,
I've been lurking here since I bought my 2004 G35 Coupe (laser red) back in December 2003... I hate for this to be my first post, but I wanted to get some opinions on this... First, let me say that you guys aren't going to be able to convince me not to sell my car- I have a baby on the way, and it's just not going to be practical to keep it. I've got a purchaser lined up that's willing to give me $31,000 to $32,000 depending on whether or not it has all the options they want. (this is an Infiniti dealer that's offering to buy it) What I'm torn about is whether I should trade it in (at $31,000 to $32,000, or try to sell it privately) It's fully loaded 6 speed, Navigation, Aero (minus rear wing) so should I be happy getting $31-32k for it? Kelly Blue Book hasn't even put a value on the 2004 yet, so I'm a little torn. What do you guys think? I paid $38,000 for it new, so I don't feel so bad getting $31-32k for it.... Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: Selling the G...

I bet if you sold it privately, you could get 34k-35k for it, depending on mileage, just my view.

Re: Selling the G...

I appreciate your opinions, but first, I doubt I could get $34-35k when the car only cost $38k new... Secondly- even if I could get that much- would it be worth it for the hassle of selling it privately?

Re: Selling the G...

If money is definately a main factor of selling the car, then yes, private sale will always get more than dealer buy. Usually enough to make it worth it. Luckily for us, we have hot cars which should sell pretty quick. Dont settle for $31-32000 since you havent even had it 1 year yet and it looks to be in good shape.

Re: Selling the G...

Either way, try to get rid of it before the new 05's hit because that can only bring the value down with all the new changes.

Re: Selling the G...

wow the dealer is giving you 31-32k for it, dont put down this offer, its tremendous..i have heard dealers are giving the kbb value for an 03 since the 05s are ariving now, which happens to be 28-29..private party as well, dont expect to get more than 31 since you dont seem to have all the options..

see cars.com people are having a hard time selling their car at good price since the 04s are being discounted upto 500 over invoice..so almost anyone with some skills can get the 04 + prem for 33.5 or something..so i dont know how you can expect to get more...until ofcourse peole dont know. I am in the line for a red + willow + prem + aero and I dont think I will give anyone more than 30-30.5 for it..as much as 03s are going...if i dont get it..hell its only 2 months before people realise that 05s are on the lot and now kbb has made it official that their car is worth that much...there are plenty of G coupes in the market right now..so I dont know..

It depends on what you are doing? If you are trading in your car for something the dealer has..then its cool, I think since you will not be paying tax on the price you mentioned, so you will saved something on the lines of 2.5k...so you should keep that in mind..

what are you planning on getting??

btw congratulations..for the baby..all the best..

30616 6MT 33290
32555 6MT + PREM 35540
33029 6MT + PREM + AERO 36090
33489 6MT + PREM + 4PIECE 36730
35294 6MT + PREM + 4PIECE + NAV 38730
32900 6MT + PREM + XM 35940
34834 6MT + PREM + AERO + NAV 38090
33374 6MT + PREM + AERO + XM 36490

these are some of the invoice/msrp prices for the 04 and people have been getting 300-750 on top of invoice depending on the region..so the price you seem to get it awesome..I will doubt how much can the dealer sell this car for, until he has a customer already lined up who doesnt know much

Re: Selling the G...

Wow- thank you for your kind words, and helpful insite. After much hemming and hawing, I traded the 04' G35 in on an 04' Dodge Ram Quad Cab 4x4 with the 345 HP Hemi engine. (After owning the G, I had to get the Hemi to keep myself somewhat interested...) The dealer gave me $31k with a promise to push for $32k from the dealer it's going to. (I told them I'd treat them all to lunch if they got me the extra $1k!) The car was fully loaded except for the rear wing, but I still think I did pretty well. (It only lost $6k in a year- not too bad) I will miss my G dearly. I had a little "talk" with it while cleaning out the glove box this evening in front of the dealership. I am sorry to be getting rid of the funnest car I've ever owned, but I know that someone will buy it and continue with the fun in the near future. I've enjoyed reading all of your postings over the last year, and wish you all the best.
Regards,

Marty

They discount Dodge Ram Quads here in Atlanta, GA, $10000 to $12000 off sticker. I hope you got a discount plus the trade in.

Re: Selling the G...

I got the excellent trade, 0% interest for 60 months, and 2500 factory cash. I could have gotten more cash, but then I wouldn't have gotten the 0% interest... It was pretty funny driving to work this morning. The place where I normally make a U-turn to get to my office was very interesting compared to my G! Between the high center of gravity, and the Hemi motor, I thought I was going to flip it!
I'm really going to miss the G- but I think this was for the best. Thanks again for all of your comments and advice!
Regards,
Marty
