Castrol Gear Oil

I have used castrol gear oil in my trans for all my other cars. Our transmissions are somewhat fragile. Anybody have any concerns or experience with this oil?

Start using Amsoil, you'll never go back.

Scott do you have a 5AT or 6MT? Are you talking about differential fluid or transmission fluid?

Just out of curiousity, any particular reason why? Did you buy Amsoil for longevity? How often did you change oil?

sorry, its a 6mt. Im leaving to take the g on a 2000 mile trek to tail of the dragon in the mountains on the border of nc, tn and ky. I will be stopping in raleigh for a few days and if the castrol is no good for our cars i will change it over there if I can find a place that sells amsoil. Otherwise i will wait until I get home.

You're far better off with AMSOL fluid for your MT....I wouldn't use Castrol just because I hate that stupid commerical "Thinking with your dipstick Jimmy." Damn commercial is on the Speed Channel 24/7....

I just change my tranny fluid this weekend with amsoil Manual Transmission & Transaxle Gear Lube 75W-90. I was so happy, it shifts a little better from 1st to 2nd and smoother heal toe shifting. Dude i wish i could drive the DRAGON take of the G i heard its not for rookies. All i have to compare is the Sierra Nevada passes.

Yeah the Dragon is gonna be fun but no its not for rookies. Over 300 miles of twisty mountain roads. We got the GoPro HD, digital cams, flip videos. 3 days of killing it Hopefully not driving off the side of the mountain. Ill post pics and videos when i get back. I guess ill change over to Amsol too before I leave. Does autozone or advanced auto carry it?

Not where i live but i had to go thru a motorcycle shop to order some but if you live in the city you should be able. Go on the Amsoil web site to find a dealer.

well when i bought the car the 1st owner used castrol gear oil, my friends ran amsoil and i went ahead and gave it a try. i feel that it does shift smoother. i search around on here and other forums and found that most people like amsoil gear oil. i dont drive my car much, maybe 5k miles a year but i do change the diff oil every summer.
