advice on buying a salvaged vehicle.
advice on buying a salvaged vehicle.
I am a little sketchy on the details of a 06 G35 coupe, but I am thinking about purchasing a salvaged one.
I will get the VIN# from him today so I can carfax and see what happened.
What do you guys think, in general, of buying a salvaged vehicle? The car only has 32k on the odometer. Test drove it and it felt buttery smooth.
He said all that was replaced was the passenger headlight, hood, and front bumper. Asked him to pop the hood and didn't see any damage visibly that I could tell.
I'll ask him if I can take it to a mechanic to get it checked on.
Also whats a good price to pay for a salvaged 06 G35 coupe, 32k, automatic, sport package?
I really want this car because I recently totaled my '03 coupe.

My 06 coupe has a rebuild title. Everything was fixed when I bought the car and it only had 8k on it. They showed me pictures of the damage and all the reports on everything, it all checked out. The car drove like brand new, and still does (knock on wood). As long as you make sure everything is what they say it is, I'd say go for it if the price is right. How much are they asking for the car?
IMO there are better deals out there, but it also depends on the extent of the damage before it was fixed. If it hit a semi or something, then you obviously don't want it.
I'd avoid it, but if the owner is honest (which he probably won't be) about the details of the accident and can provide you accurate pictures (which he probably won't have) of the vehicle after the accident and before the repair, and everything seems to check out, would I then consider purchasing a salvaged car.

Most insurance companies will not insure salvage vehicles at "full coverage".
I say don't do it. Some people say they are insured at "full coverage" only because the Insurance Company do no know that the car is salvage.
But once you need to file a claim, they will run a check on your car and say that the damages exceed the value of what the car is worth. Since salvage cars are worth shlt.

^ I disagree on salvage cars not worth anything, they are still cars that drive the same way as clean title cars do, it really depends on the extent of the damage the car suffered. Mine was hit in the rear drivers side quarterpanel and only suffered cosmetic damage, it drives just like any other G35 out there!

that begs the question...why the salvaged title?
Yup, that would be the G35 in question.

He is asking for $15k. I'm thinking the car is probably worth around $11-12k because of its salvaged title.
I drove the car and it felt much smooth and brand new. A much smoother ride than the 03 I was driving last week.

Im assuming the original owner didnt want to keep the car and it went through an auto auction, once the insurance takes the car, the state totals the title...
Yes. So the story goes is he bought it recently knowing it was salvaged. But now he is having a child, so it makes sense that he has to sell the car.
I guess I just need a mechanic to check the car out and if he says the cars alright, I'll go ahead and pick the car up. There is paint work that needs to be done, but otherwise, the car seemed in pretty good shape.
