Exclamation WTF??? not again!!! (I hope)

Okay, so about 10k miles ago my 06 coupe (NON revup) was brought in for oil consumption tests by Infiniti since my oil pressure light came one, had engine chatter, and I could smell oil burning, and the oil kept getting burnt out (5 quarts every 1,000 miles). They deemed the suspect: Piston Ring Failure, and ordered me a new motor.

Well, now 10,000 miles later, I'm having the same issues almost.

I hear the engine chatter, the oil pressure light came on yesterday (for just half a second, and only about 2 times). However I do not SEE NOR SMELL burning oil like I did the first time though, and my bumper wasn't getting burnt oil particle bits like it did last time either.

I drove early this morning without the radio on and at about 1800-2500 rpms, I can hear the engine chatter intermittently. I let my car rest for 2 hours (doubt it was enough) and cool down, and check the oil dipstick, I could see only about 2-3mms of oil on the end, however I will check tomorrow morning to confirm if my car is burning oil yet again.

I find this VERY odd since this is the second time, my car is 5AT, and none of my modifications would cause this issue.
I do not abuse my car in any way shape or form, anyone who has met me, knows that very well.

I mean even if it were low on oil, I'm not due for another 900 miles (I change mine every 3000 to 3500 miles, I never miss it).

What do you guys think?
I have no clue IF it were needed that I'd be getting yet ANOTHER motor, or if I'd have to fight with Infiniti corporate yet AGAIN, to try and convince them so (even though I do not want the end result being that)..

Thank you in advance.

You didn't mention having to fight Nissan the first time around, was it difficult to get them to honor the warranty?
Hoping that all turns out well, but I certainly would take it to them if for no other reason than to start the "paper trail".
It might protect you if in the near future they fight you on having to replace yet another motor.

One would only hope that when you receive a replacement motor it would be right! Nissan is probably recycling those engines returned with new (not improved) rings. Sounds like the same issue Tofu, sorry bout that....

Is the entire motor new? I vaguely remember reading that they replaced the block, maybe if they re-used some parts you could have a defective part. As in maybe it's some part they re-used that blew the rings again.

I didn't have to fight much no.
My mods since back then and now have hardly changed, if anything it was just my vb upgrade lately and some exterior mods which I know have absolutely nothing to do with this issue.

I know these guys at Infiniti very well, so I'm going to check my oil levels today and if it's low, then I'm bringing it in and will update, and if it isn't I'll drive it for a couple more days or something and check again then to confirm.

I hope this all works out, I have just owned this car for a tad over a year, and I love it, but this issue is really raising some red flags for me.

It would have been a good idea to check the oil level the minute you heard the noise or noticed any warning lights!

Take it into the dealer, try to get a new engine, then cut your losses and sell the car before it drops out of warranty and you really are screwed. Just my 2 cents. Sorry to hear this man. It's issues like these that convince me thoroughly this will be my first and last Nissan.

I confirmed with Infiniti just now (I'm at the dealer right now), it is a brand new motor, not refurbished.

I pulled the dipstick this morning and as I predicted, there was just 2 mms of oil traced on the tip of the dipstick. not good.

They are doing another oil consumption test at the moment, so I'll be back there at 1000 miles to have them check the oil level, then out again for another 3000 miles or so to check a second time and go from there. They aren't sure why this is happening especially with only 10,000 miles on the new motor.

I'm praying this stuff works out since I've worked hard to get this car and it's only been shy over a year since I've had it. Not to mention this is a non-revup motor and I'm having this issue is beyond me.

Because this is a new motor, the warranty applies to it regardless (what they said).

Thank you all for your support, I shall be sure to keep you all posted.
