Time to buy a radar detector
I was in the same spot as you OP a couple weeks ago. FYI, that auction is for an 8500. The 8500 X50 refurb is $200 from Escort. I almost made the same mistake. You want the X50 because it has the same range as the new one (9500).
I picked one up off of an auction from the Best Buy outlet store. I ended up getting it for about $150 after everything.
I've been using it for over a week, but so far it hasn't actually alerted me of any cops, just a few falses. I guess I haven't been targeted yet...

Got mine for $200 when Circuit City was liquidating a store by me, they normally retailed for $369 I think. The new RX has GPS built in which is nice if you live in the city and drive by the same automatic door all the time.
Radar detectors are great at doing what they are designed to do. Unfortuenately people dont fully understand just what they are designed to do or the threat (radar LIDAR) they are trying to protect themsleves from. Mine was stolen and I have not replaced it and was nabbed twice for speeding since then, I know the Radar most likely would have alerted me to the speed trap ahead on one occasion. On the other it would not have made any difference. Police Departments are using better and better equipment to defeat the detectors example is LIDAR or VG2 band in pulse mode. Big deal your radar goes of with a warning for Pulse or LIDAR it doesnt matter you have already been hit the gun has your speed nothing you can do now.
Do your reasearch there are some very good detectors on the market just be clear on what you expect it to do and get familiar with what equipment the police use in your area.
"For every measure there is a counter measure."

i liked v1 when i had one, but i heard great things about the x50..
but ever thought about slowing down a bit? if you only go 5~10mph over, the chance of you getting pulled over probably drops by like 80%.. (i made up the % btw)

you guys are suggesting something that the OP may not need. V1's are nice, but in metro Atlanta most detection is done by laser. if you out outside of the metro area you'll want a radar detector.
i used to have that radar if you are going to get an escort radar get the ones with gps trust me on this.. ive has that same one and i switch it to the 500 dollar one and now im with valentine but get the 9500i way better!!!!!!
