Time to buy a radar detector

So I've racked up 2 tickets ...one from not realizing a cop was behind me at a red light ..and another from going a little too fast on a country road in the middle of nowhere thus getting owned by a patrol car who was sitting in a barn or something (I did not see him). I realize I was speeding, breaking the law, and got caught, but I'm a safe/good driver and don't speed over 10/15 rarely ever or in high volume traffic areas. I'm tired of bleeding money to probate courts and now we've got this 'super duper speeder' law in Georgia that tacks on an extra $200 for anything 15 over...I DO NOT want my insurance to go up, it's enough already on the G

So it's time to buy a radar detector. I'm not looking to spend a ton so I'm thinking about getting the Escort 8500 X50. What do you guys think about a refurbished radar detector..? Bad idea?

Also, does anyone else who lives in Atlanta know if our police force is using laser detectors? If so it might be worthless to buy this..

I have an X50 that I love. Looks like a good deal in the link. Comes straight from the factory and has a warranty.

V1 all day, every day.

but as far as refurbished........they only down side IMO is that it could be scratched in places. If that does not bother you than go for it. Factory refurbished product is just as good or better than new in most cases.

I've got the Beltronics RX65 which has saved me a bunch of times. No detector is fool proof though, if the cop is using instant on they don't alert you until he shoots the radar at a car.

Factory refurb comes recased in a brand new body and comes with brand new accesories. The eBay price is a great deal for a top notch radar detector.

Detector is not designed to make you invisible and allow you to speed by cops, they are designed to alert you about a cop before he/she get's your speed reading and there are plenty systems on the market that will do just that.

I live in atlanta, and your radar detector will be worthless for the most part. They will tell you when you've been caught.

Invest in a laser shifters, front and rear and you'll likely be better off.

I drive all around Socal for a living and radar is totally useless here. I would make sure cops aren't using Lidar before wasting your money on a radar detector.

I feel naked without my V1. Like OP, I usually don't go more than 10 or 15 over. The V1 just keeps me on my toes. I've been pulled over and ticketed once in 5 years (knock on wood) with the V1 and that was because a traffic cop got me with laser going 10 over. Lidar is usually reserved for the traffic cops here. Most state troopers use radar.
