Help - Cam Sensor?

Hey, just yesterday i tried to start my car and there was a good 5 second delay before it actually started. Then all the lights started showing up...from "Service Engine Soon" to "VDC off" to "Slip"...etc.

I initially thought it was a spark plug or the starter, but neither of them are the problem. My friend said it happened to him and it was a malfunction in the Cam Sensor....could this be? I did not see how a problem in the Cam Sensor would cause a delay in the start of the car, but if u guys think this is possible let me know. Thanks.

Check what the code is..

It could be your alternator is failing.

Yes, one of your camshaft position sensors is bad. Get the code checked to see which one. It cost me $350 at Nissan to have it replaced....

How can you come to the conclusion?

Does the car misfire? Is it sputtering?

He didnt state any of that just "his friend said so" I like to diagnose to be 100% sure rather than guessing.

I had a cam sensor go bad in my 300zx. The car started right up, but died after a few seconds. The best thing is to hook it up to an OBDII and get the code.

samething happened to mine OP.

I did pull the code and mine was the cam position sensor. I replaced both for like $80 and about 1 hour of my time. Reset ECU and back on the road I went.

You should pull the code though.

exact same thing happened to me, its either one of the 4 cam sensors OR the crank angle sensor. Should be ~60 to replace and you can get to it Kinda easily, especially the Crank A.S., id say its a 3/10 on the difficulty scale
