Car starts and dies

I bought my 03 g35 at an auction for a cheap price, or so I thought, with 105k miles on it. It ran like a beauty. I had a couple veteran dealership owners check it. They gave me the green light to purchase.

I've only had it for a month. A week into ownership, my radio/air starting acting up. And so the story goes, I did my research and know how to fix that problem. No big deal as I got the car for a steal and still LOVE IT!

Yesterday, out of the blue, decided it didn't want to start. It would start up initially and die as soon as I went to put it in park. When it died I was about 50 miles from my trusted mechanic and decided to give a local auto repair shop a chance - as it was close to my work and didn't want to pay 200 buck to get it towed.

Tuffy took 5 hours (!!!) to diagnose the problem. About an hour into their diagnosis I told them about throttle body issues per my research on the internet and this site. And of course, probably b/c I am a female, they shrugged off my suggestion.

After 5 hours they called to say they thought it was a throttle body issue. HA!! Should of listened to me in the first place I thought, jerks. So I went ahead and had them order the part through an Infiniti dealer to speed up the process.

They called me and said it was fixed and it was the throttle body but not before they wanted to charge me another 400 dollars to change my spark plugs. I told them to leave them alone. Total cost = $700 for throttle body and labor.

I am going to pick up the car in an hour. Wish me luck that this fixes the problem. As one more problem and I am going to chalk this purchase up to a lemon and sell the car.

Just wanted to give a heads-up to other owners who have this problem as it was hard for me to find out the issue when I started my research.

Congrats on the purchase and good luck with the stalling issue. BTW - at 105k, changing your spark plugs is a pretty good idea. It will also give you an indication if you're having oil leakage in the spark plug tubes, which means it's time for a new valve cover (see sticky above).

have your codes check for the cam sensors. Many issues are caused by those failing. Also you may need to have them perform the throttle relearn.

Thanks for the info everyone. I thought the dealership would more pricey. I should have just taken it to Nissan. Ya live and ya learn I suppose.

It's running great though. What is ment by relearning?

is a program on the nissan consult that helps program the ecu to give you a better idle due to the new installation of your throttle body. Ask them if they did it

Eh.

I would have personally tackled it myself after I found out the specific problem. I had a similar issue with my 2003. Throttle body sensor and Throttle Position sensor went at the same time.

The throttle body just requires you to remove the intake arm and take 4 Alan Key bolts out. I don't know how comfortable you are doing so, but for next time take a little look through the forums & DIY's, very helpful. Good luck!
