Re: anyone not switch to synthetic?

i'm at 6.5k, still non-synth.. going to change oil again within the next month or two to switch from 10w30 to 5w30 for winter, but next oil change after that, switching to synth.

Re: anyone not switch to synthetic?

oh and my car runs absolutely great.. didn't switch because of the fear of not being completely broken in yet, and seals possibly not completely settling in. I just wanted to make sure that my engine didn't burn oil in the future.

Even if this isn't true, i figured it does hurt to keep the non-synth for a little longer. Better safe than sorry.

Re: anyone not switch to synthetic?

Still running dino and probably not going to switch. I live in So-Cal and change oil every 3k so synth probably won't make much difference as the temp here is so mild.

Re: anyone not switch to synthetic?

thanks for letting me know. question, keeping regular oil during break in helps to assure no extreme oil consumption later on???

Re: anyone not switch to synthetic?

interesting... im in jersey... you think i can get away with regular oil as long as changed every 3k? i worry about oil consumption issues. plus even with synthetic i planned on changin the oil fairly regularly. what do you think about reg. in jersey.

Re: anyone not switch to synthetic?

dino 5w30 was fine for me last winter, and I was in jersey/midstate ny the whole time.

The oil consumption thing may just be a myth, I really don't know...

Re: anyone not switch to synthetic?

I'm not a big oil expert but I think the main benefit to the synthetics is the longer change intervals. If I understand correctly, the synthetics don't break down as quickly as regular dino oil.

With that said, I'm sticking to dino because I change the oil every 3500-4000 miles with ~85-90% highway driving.

Re: anyone not switch to synthetic?

ditto... what al503 said. My local dealership doesn't offer synthetic. It is important to me to have them do all of the oil changes for warranty reasons. After the warranty is up, I'll probably switch to synthetic, but keep the frequent drain intervals.

Re: anyone not switch to synthetic?

good to know some others arent gonna change to synthetic anytime soon. i didnt really want to cause of the stories and possibilities of warranty void, oil consumption. im curious to find out if that is true about synthetics only benefit is the non need to change frequently.

and me...a postwhore?...
