WTB G35 need advice

Hey guys, my fiance and I are getting ready to buy a new summer DD. My first choice is a G35 coupe. I'm hoping to jump into an 03-07 as it fits our budget. I'm planning on keeping it stock as I already have a toy for going fast.

I want to start looking but I don't really know the first thing about these cars. I just want to get a summarized run down of all the common problems that might be associated with these cars. Anything at all big and small I just want to know what to look for when I start hitting the used market for one of these beautiful machines!

thanks alot of guys I'm looking forward to learning all about G35's!

Well from personal exp I know some of the 05-07 6mt (revup engine) can have the oil consumption issue, but of my months of searching it is very difficult to find out actually what % of 05-07 6mt G coupes have this issue.
The only other minor issues I know are common are the axle click and the clutch pedal clicking on the 6mt.
Keep in mind though that on any car forum you will always hear more of what people dislike about their cars or what probs they are experiencing over what they like about their cars.
Human nature.

There's another thread here that talked about all of the issues with with 04 g35. You should take a look at that thread. If you read most of the recent threads, it should give you an idea of what you should expect.

I love my 06 coupe. I would def say go 06-07. Everybody upgrades their older model g's with 06-07 parts(headlights/tailights, bumpers, etc). I haven't had any real issues to complain about yet(knock on wood).. Gl with purchase.

The more you learn, the more you want to mod. Good luck keeping it stock

The 03-05's run into electrical issues like door locks failing, window motors failing, trunk lid wires snapping. All of those happened to my 03 lol
But I still love it. The armrest console changes with every year of the G35.
There's even 2 different ones for the 03 alone.
You will find 03-05's cheaper than 05-07's tho. However if you go 03-05, you WILL want to dish out the $$$ to get the 06 headlights (available from vendors and other members in the marketplace).

sorry guys I'm a real newb to these cars thus far. But are all these differences between 03-05 and 06-07 cosmetic because personally I find the 03-05 better looking with their spoilers taillights and even headlights. If there are really good reason like the electrical issues then maybe I'll consider it, but we're on a budget. This is a daily driver and the money I save on buying this car I can put into my sports car *oh and the wedding *

Were the electrical issues that the early models had fixed by 06-07? Were the 06-07 also free of the engine OC issues?

i recently bought a 2007 6mt. i love the car. its fast enough for me. im not looking to race but im sure it will give lots of cars a run for their money. there are some pops and snaps that occur often. if that bothers u, id look to other cars. otherwise, i think they are one of the sharpest cars on the road.

The 06+ have nicer interior/exterior features. These models are still known to have OC issues but I believe they are rare.

Its not all models of the car that have OC issues. But its the 05-06 equipped with the rev-up motor that has the issue. If you get the 05-06 with the rev-up, just make sure that when you purchase the vehicle that you have the power train warranty. That way, when you go for an OC test and realize you do have an OC problem, then the dealership can replace the engine for you.

On top of that, another problem that our cars have is oil leaking into the No. 6 spark plug. You gotta pull off your plugs to check to see if you have that issue as well. Again, this is also covered by the power train warranty. I personally haven't seen a pattern with this on what models, I don't know if anyone can clarify that.

As for the door locks, my power driver side power door lock motor is starting to die right now. Gotta find me a replacement soon.

Biggest problems for the coupes is the brakes from 03 to 05 and 07 according to Consumer Reports.

The worst thing on an 06 is the paint but it has the best stock Bose System

aside from that all are pretty similar, VERY reliable cars (rated i think in top 3 from Consumer Reports).

Man no offense guys, but this "reliable" car stuff seems like complete horse****. I want to believe that these cars are reliable but I think my 1990 Sunbird has less issues then I could be getting into with one of these and its whats getting replaced.

Brakes, paint, electrical, burning oil and front end issues... this sounds like my Pontiac Sunbird except it isn't worth 20 000$
