Yes, it has been confirmed that there are some Japanese people converting their skylines to G35's.

Ask Zack from RareJDM, he is always swapping USDM parts for JDM parts.

Yeah debadged is definitely the way to go IMO. I'm still sportin the Mt. Fuji so people know it's an Infiniti. I never understood why people want to rebadge their cars to something that's socially accepted as and according to company marketing a brand of "lesser value." I understand that our G35 is a 350GT in Japan... But the last time I checked we were not in Japan and Infiniti is our "LUXURY" line of Nissan (case in point - Nissan Z vs. G35, both identical chassis, engine, etc. The only difference is the added luxury to G35 + back seats.)

I don't see anyone who drives a Lexus convert to Toyota (some other person said it backwards earlier) or even people who drive Audis convert to VW badges (a bit of an extreme comparison but the principle remains the same). Sure I see tons of Acuras that rebadge as Honda but I think that's silly too and although there are some very respectably tuned Hondas/Acuras, I think it's a pretty well known (semi-confirmed) stereotype that most of those are pretty trashy and rice gone bad. I would hate to see the G35 go down that same road although it seems inevitable at this point with the used car prices being so low. Fact remains is when I bought my car it was an Infiniti, the car is ID'd as an Infiniti by VIN, and so it will always be an Infiniti.

As a side note, from what I understand I think Honda even rebranded the NSX as Acura in US markets because they feared no one would buy them as Hondas.. That's funny to me
because it makes think even more about why the hell people do this.. No matter how you look at it, our G35s are still manufactured in Japan (at least mine is) which makes it Japanese right? Does turning it into a Nissan make it more Japanese?

I'm not trying to put anyone down who has done this; in fact I respect the decisions people make about modding their cars and I wholly believe in making a car one's own. It may not be something I'd do but at the end of the day you're the one driving the car and you're the one who has to look at it, not me or anyone else here. I'm just exploring the more extreme case of why people do it and plus I'm bored at work with nothing better to do than just ramble.

My whole car is shaved except "skyline" on the trunk, No infiniti emblem on the grill either.
I accept the fact that it could be called rice, and I get alot of question from people about it being a skyline, I basically explain to them "that in everywhere but the u.s. the car is a skyline, I am not trying to fool anyone, I have the badge for hommage, and novelty" nothing more.

Thanks for the correction Cal, they are RHD my error! Sorry Marcus, I misread your post. As strange as it may seem my wife does a great job driving from the passenger seat....just ask her! LOL

It's just a theme, just like a lot of people decide to go Kenstyle or Mugen or whatever as a theme for their car. Just because you choose to use all Mugen brand parts doesn't mean you're trying to say your car was built by Mugen. If you love your Infiniti then good, but if you want to be unique I think it's harmless right? I posted this thread to get an idea of what the g35 community is like and what your perspectives are that's all.

So why is it our used high class Infiniti is now worth close to half of most other cars in it's class? Like Team_Work said, it's all about the marketing. Some buy the Infiniti for the brand name, others buy the car because it's just bad*ss.

I live in London and drive a skyline 350GT. all the cars in uk come from Japan so retain the jAPanese name. people here actually get upset if you call it an infiniti g35! we do not have infiniti here yet. the car has never been on sale here so they have all been imported from japan. the only people who dont like it are hard core GTR drivers with 32's 33's and 34's. but they are slowely learning that these cars are great. the new GTR is not considered a skyline but many people think it should be. we were getting the skyline 370GT but now they want to call that an infiniti and try to get into the market to compete with BMW, Mercedes and Audi etc. last comment is if its your car, do what makes you happy.
