Question Recent 6MT purchase-VDC question

I recently purchased an 04' red 6MT with 23,000 miles in very nice condition but I have noticed the VDC engaging much earlier than needed. Has anyone experienced this problem?

23k miles on a '04 model...score!

I agree the VDC is a bit intrusive and overzealous at times.

Unusal VDC

Turning it off is an idea I like but when the system in my prior car worked it was when you need it. I drove a 325it before and pushed it much harder in curves than this car and it never engaged. That is why I think there must be a problem.

Potomac, nice! But plus one, always leave it off. I was driving my sisters new sonata with brake assistant, didn't know about it and it scared the **** out of me when it finally kicked in... Now i know to turn it off!

I think I fond the problem in another thread

The rear tires were just replaced and the fronts have some wear. Most people on the forum that have experienced this problem suggest replacing front and rear tires always.

Yuh, had this happen to me a couple of times recently. Just replaced the rear tires and was taking some turns on the tollway, and the VDC kicked in. Definitely had a "what the **** is breaking in my car?!?" moment.

I guess it means I'm due for some new front tires.

I do think VDC is a little intrusive. Especially when I'm waiting to make a left turn, see the small crack in oncoming traffic, and step on it just a little hard to make the turn quickly, only to be slowed by the VDC. So...I usually drive with VDC off now when the weather is nice and I'm in the car by myself. With passengers or in the rain/snow, I leave it on....

I should know the outcome tomorrow

I am going to replace the fronts tomorrow and will check to see if it causes the problem to stop.

front tires used, rear tires new = different circumference = VDC activating

Do the math....

I replaced my rears and used my partially worn fronts and had this same issue, but it did go away. The car re-learns the new circumference and it goes away and back to "normal."

Just drive it with the VDC on and turn it off whenever it gets to be a problem. The car will typically learn in a few weeks if you daily drive it.

Obviously your front tires have to have some decent tread on them. If they are bald and your rears are brand new, it might be too much of a difference.
