DIY: Make your own License plate without drilling holes
Originally I was gonig to make something similar to stillen's plate that screw into the tow hook hole.
Later I found a much easiler method which is to use a paper clip. To my suprise it was very strong and holds the plate very very well. If you dont believe me then just give it a try and see how well it holds up, afterall it cost less then a dollor and take one min of your time.
1. Use clip to hold the plate against the bumper.
2. Remove the clip handle and save it for later when you need to remove the plate.
3. The whole process takes less then a minute. It doesn't occupy the tow hook and can be easily remove.
Furthermore, you can also add pads to the back of the plate holder to prevent any scratch to the surface of the bumper.

I found that you can also install the plate holder up side down so the lincense plate will sits lower. However to do this you'll need to use a small clips.

This is pretty damn smart... I'm gonna try it tomorrow.
So we actually don't need the bolt, right?

Cool DIY. But for some reason it looks like it would slide down if somebody or something were to hit it.
Or add the clips on the sides as well. hummm....

Re: Front License plate DIY -$0.50 cents & take 1 mins
Thanks guys,
I am too very surprise of how well it holds up. All thanks to the perfect fitment between the plate holder and front bumper. They both joint so perfectly like two pieces of puzzle therefore leaving no rooms to move around. Like I say, you just have to try it and see it for yourself. I can't really think of any scenario where someone or something will hit the plate making it to fall down? I think it should do just fine against normal driving G-forces and Gravity.
GCoupe35: if you are asking about the final look with the license plate on then it look the same as any factory installed.
SagiSRP: The point here is avoid permanent solution like drilling holes to our bumper. If you were refering "temporary" as the possibility of falling apart one day then I think that's very unlikely.

Very clever. I'd check it periodically to make sure it hasn't slipped down though. With a firm suspension like the coupe's I could imagine it gradually dropping after repeated sharp road impacts (lots of those here in the NYC metro area). Having it fall off completely would be *very* bad, especially if it was undetected at the time.

I agree that it is a clever idea....BUT the entire purpose of using the bolt on method with the tow hook placement is to avoid scratches on the front bumper.
With your paper clip idea, the holder is against the paint, so if you want to remove it later it will more than likely leave scratches....
(keep in mind that I understand that some states require front plate, but mine does not. So if I were to purchase a car from a state that does, I would not want scratches on the front bumper when removed)
just my .02

If you put a small metal screw connecting the plastic to the clip it will never fall off. The clip holds it to the car, and if the clip can't go anywhere, then its not going to fall off!
This is great. I'm going to get some felt, and a clip and screw. So I took the project to 1.50 2 bucks tops!

this is a great idea btw... the purpose of the bolt on method is not so much to avoid scratches but to avoid drilling holes in the bumper...
lining the holder with felt will keep it from scratching... or you can put some rubber pieces on the corners of the holder so the plastic doesn't touch... i'll probably use the same stuff they have to put under some computer speakers...
