5 posts in this thread contain that answer. This response contains the correct numerical value.

It should always be 5qts. Even if you reuse the filter (which is OK, as most of them are good for 2 oil changes [although I never would]), you should still take it off and empty it of all the dirty old oil.

One more correct response to this thread...5 quarts of your favorite oil will fill your G to the full line! Since I answered this thread I've quit using AMSOIL and K&N filters due to going thru a quart between changes. Went back to Mobil1 10w/30 (Costco) and WIX oil filters, quit using oil...Gary

You can't really get much of the oil out by doing this. Maybe a third of what's in there at most. I've cut open oil filters before after "draining" them. You'd be surprised how much is left.

Are you using the Castrol Edge European Formula made in Belgium/Germany?

In case you aren't aware... Advance Auto has a sale that is on until the end of this month where you can get 5 quarts of Castrol Edge for $28. The Belgium-made 0W30 Euro formula is included in that as I bought some today at my local store. Probably worth picking up at least one batch of it if you've got a store nearby since this stuff is typically mega expensive.

Just an FYI for all that use the bigger M45 filters like me. The 5+ qt. jugs, I believe it's 5.25 qts., fills the motor right to the top of the full line on the dipstick.........

My 05 sedan has a factory oil cooler between the pan and the filter, I thought all first gen G's had one. You must be talking about an external cooler.......
