how much oil do I use?

I had my 04 g35 coupe auto for sometime now. Before when I do my oil change, I just dump in a 4.4L bottle of 10w30 Mobil1 synthetic oil.

Just few days ago, I spilled a bit on the engine cover when I do oil change, so I suspected if I need to buy another bottle. Then I realize that I never really know the factory recommended amount of oil to use in this car because I don't have my owner's manual.

Before, I just check the dipstick and I think it is ok. Anyway, how about you guys? how much oil do you guys put in there?

MOST IMPORTANTLY, do you think that I am putting enough in my car?

It takes a total of 5qts/4.7L w/filter, 4 5/8qts/4.4L without changing oil filter. I like to let the car sit for at least an hour after driving before checking the dipstick, otherwise you can get an inaccurate reading.

And here's the conversion.

4.4 L = 4.64942 qt(US Liq)

So no 4.4L is not enough w/filter, but is enough without a filter change.

ah thx a lot guys, I think I can use another half litre since I always change my oil filter.
Just wondering though, I have a 1L bottle of 5w30 mobil1 synthetic. Could I just add bit of that instead although I know i should probably use 10w30.

When I go to my buddys shop to change my oil I bring 5qts of AMSOIL and my brand new K&N filter. When we're done and all trash is thrown away we're off the rack and down the road and I check the oil level when I get home and once a week there after.

Spot on, makes life simple. OP if you were adding 4.4., you probably noticed you were on the low end of the dipstick, which is okay as long as you're between the lines.

And as you noted, xyz, you should always change the filter.

Ya, definitely on the low end of the dipstick, which is why it worries me.

Oh ya, just another note, what filter is recommended for my car anyway? I always just use whatever brand the filter is at my mechanic's place

Lots of threads about oils and filters. I use Wix or Amsoil.

Sometimes I need a little more than 5 quarts to complete the job. And by little, I mean 1/8th of a quart.
