Re: Bose system worth it?

After my experience with bose in my MB ML320, and hearing the Bose in my G, i wish i would have had the option to get the stock sound system and upgrade it. I have a very sensative ear and I can notice any little distortion the speakers dish out, and it really bothers me. But if you don't have a good ear, then go with the bose. It's a waste of money IMO.

Re: Bose system worth it?

I'm not an audiophile, and even to me the standard system in the coupe was very UNimpressive. The Bose sounds a lot better in comparison to the standard system, but overall it's a disappointment for an upgraded stereo in a luxury car.

Then again, it's the only upgrade that retains use of the steering wheel controls AFAIK, and I really like that convenience. If it weren't for these controls, I probably would have looked into the standard system followed by upgrades.

Re: Bose system worth it?

Just got the car yesterday, and I'm not impressed at all! I thought the Bose radio would be great but was sadly let down. Why does it sound shitty if the home theater systems and all their other stuff sounds awesome?

Re: Bose system worth it?

I agree that the BOSE upgrade was not worth it to me. I guess I am too demanding of the system or am too used to after market systems. But I would expect more from the upgrade bose. The bass is decent but the Clarity and imaging is not that good at all. I have even compared it do other cars with stock BOSE systems and it doesn't seem to sound as good. Well I still love the car but I guess it'll be an after market system for me!

Alright, so what, if any, do the people who want to upgrade have to do? Is there any aftermarket possibilities or is the system too integrated to deal with?

Re: Bose system worth it?

Ha I'd almost be shocked if BOSE actually made the system in the car. Chances are that they sold Infiniti the name I mean honestly, and I know someone can attest to this, the paper crap that is behind the door please a real speaker is not made of paper and 240 watts is nothing at all. Im a big car audio person (yeah the one that pisses you off in traffic) so my opinion may be baised but I dont even have the car an I'm not impressed. Sorry but a good clean sound with tight bass response is only gonna come from aftermarket components. Only reason I got the damn BOSE upgrade is cause it was bundled in with all the other stuff that I wanted so we will see how long it actually stays in the car b4 i rip it out. Hopefully the sweet music of the engine Growling will keep me content. DO IT LOUD!!!

Re: Bose system worth it?

Can you use the steering wheel controls for the standard audio system? I didn't get the premium package.

I believe the standard audio system gets the Steering Wheel controls too.

Re: Bose system worth it?

That's one of the lame things about an after market system. Unless you get a shop with some serious talent there is no way you'll be able to use the stock steering wheel controls. One thing I am considering is replacing all the speakers with exact size upgraded speakers and running them through an AMP which will get the signal from the stereo with a converter or adapter of some type. I really don't car that much about the head unit, (except you can't read the display in direct sunlight). I just want better sound, that's all. Hmmmm, Wonder what all MB Quart speakers would sound like? MMMM...... MB Quart... yummy. We'll see.

Re: Bose system worth it?

Everyone bitching about the Bose premium system: I have had my coupe longer than probably most of you. I too was disapointed with the system at first. But, literally, after the amps and speakers have broken in, it sounds much better. Still not a bass bomber, but its not intended to be. If you think I am crazy, any audio guy will tell you that amps take some play time to burn in. Just give it a month or two and see if you like the sound better.

Re: Bose system worth it?

I am not wanting to distain your friend but I don't know about a breakin period for audio equipment. I have been an avid audiophile for several years and with sever al cars. Typically the sound tends to get worse as time goes by not the other. He may be refering to "high-end" tube amps which I have heard that occurs frequently. My major gripe is that I have heard several "BOSE" systems that came stock in other cars, even older ones, that sound better. Anything from Audi A4's to older Maxima Sedans. I just don't think they did a great job on the upgraded system at all. The bass is the only thing that seems marginally adequate. I'm not going to go into a full rant here. I understand that this is sports car and I'm sure Infiniti wanted you to hear more of the exhaust note then the audio, (seems like they spent more time on the exhaust). I just feel a little irked that I paid extra for what appears to be a marginal (if that) performance increase with the audio. It's ok though cuz' I like the wind, engine, exhaust music much better. But I still think a small after market upgrade is in order.

Re: Bose system worth it?

So I guess we're saying that swapping out the speakers for higher end, like ohm'd types won't help much ?? ...dean

Re: Bose system worth it?

If you can find 1 ohm speakers or find a way to convert the impedance from 4 ohms

Re: Bose system worth it?

BIGEL is right. It would be difficult to get after market speakers to run at 1 ohm. Although I don't know for sure if that is what the stock system runz at. What I planned to do was implement an after market amp as well and just pass the signal "source" from the stereo to that AMP. This means no longer using the built in AMP. Just an idea but I know it's work in other cars I've done...
