Re: Bose system worth it?
I shopping for a new car and the G35 is high on my list. I test drove the G35 sedan (see my 'First Drive & First Impressions' post under G35 sedan. Next I plan on driving the G35c.
Reading all these posts about the poor quality vs. cost for the upgraded BOSE sound system, I'm inclined to stick with the base stereo and use the $1,000 the BOSE upgrade would cost to have aftermarket speakers & amp installed (I think I should leave the head unit in place).
My concerns are:
1) Removing door panels and other parts to replace stock speakers will cause squeeks and rattles etc. because the panels won't be as tight as they were when they left the factory
2) Carpet & interior parts will have to be cut to run wires to the aftermarket amp
Having never upgraded a car stereo system (I always have left stock systems in - even though they suck) I'm concerned that the stereo shop will mess up the stock appearance of my interior, or even worse cause squeeks & rattles.
Am I being paranoid or are these valid concerns?

After doing some more research, it looks like a custom install is the only way to change the system (if you want to, I won't be). The speakers are 1ohm, and using any other head unit will over tax that amp and blow it. Putting in aftermarket 4ohm speakers will cut your audio output by at least half if you use them with the factory amps. The only two things to do would be cut the dash, install whatever head unit and speakers you want. Or, figure a way to install two dual cone subs wired in parallel to cut over impedance to 1ohm.

Oh, and I believe what they say about the adaptive EQ on the Bose. Make sense because like I say, mine sounded better after a few weeks of play. Overall I am happy with mine, and it came with the premium package. If you want to argue about manufacturers sticking it to you on option groups, then everyone in the industry is guilty of that.

Re: Bose system worth it?
Since yesterday I've listened to different types of music and I think that they base system isn't so bad. I don't have a Bose system to compare it to, but when comparing it to the Harmon Kardon system in the bmw it holds it own. It would be nice to have the subwoofer that the bose system adds, but doesn't sound bad without it.

BIGEL there is a third option as I mentioned above and I think it's the best. You go out and buy a good AMP capable of running all 8 speakers at 4 ohms. Then you buy all aftermarket speakers the same exact sizes that come in the car so replacement should not involve heavy mod's. Then either install them yourself or have a shop do the install making sure that you or they attempt to use the original wiring harness' for the speakers by connecting both the signal and the power cables to the factory harness behind the Head Unit. That way you still have all or most of the features and functions of the stock stereo. The signal will then pass from the factory signal outputs (hopefully Line Level RCA) or through a signal converter, (sold at most stereo shops) to the AMP. The AMPlifier will then power all the aftermarket speakers at 4ohms and with much more clean power. That is what I plan to do at least when I get the money.
