Mileage ~!!~!~!~!
Re: Mileage ~!!~!~!~!
As I said you must correct for rpms between cars and engines/gears/tire diameters then apply the displacement ratio.
My 4.5 liter engine turns 2,000 rpm at 60 mph whereas a G35 turns what 2300 so the G35 acts like a 3.5 x 1.15 =4.025 liter engine gas consumptionwise compared to a 4.5 at 2,000.
Corvettes turn 1600 rpm in 6th gear so the 5.65 liter engine act like a [5.65 x 0.8=4.52 liter one] at 60 mph.
RPM at 55-60 mph is designed to provide enough torque to pull average highway hills with AC on and medium load of passengers and gas so downshifts are not too frequent......which would hurt gas mileage. The smaller the displacement the more rpms are required.
An 8 liter Viper turns 1300 rpm at 60 mph in 6th gear acting like a 5.2 liter engine compared to my 4.5.

Move close to work? I tried I used to live about 30 miles from work. So then I bought a house near my work, and enjoyed a 5 mile commute to work. However, when the economy went kaboom, (about 9 months after I bought my house), I changed jobs, near to the city I USED to live at, so now I'm back to a 40 mile commute
Re: Mileage ~!!~!~!~!
I drive my car 120 miles round trip everyday and I have put 23,000 miles on so far and I got my car on New Years Day, so far not a single thing wrong with the car but I traded it in for a coupe just a few days ago but still I drived that car everywhere.

I guess by your reasoning, the Corvette should only be getting 89% of the G35's mileage (based on displacement assumptions), and that is simply not the case.
(4.025l corrected displacement vs. 4.52l corrected displacement)

Re: Mileage ~!!~!~!~!
I'm guessing in addition to displacement and revvs, one needs to also look at the compression ratio perhaps. Personally, I think there are far too many of these variables to come up with a definitive formula for determining what a car's fuel economy will be. Especially when cars start rolling out with DisplacementOnDemand/Cylinder DeActivation etc...
Re: Mileage ~!!~!~!~!
i drive about 70 miles roundtrip everyday for work
and love every millimeter of it
but those damn dump trucks!!
they all think they are in a sports cars and drivin in the fast lane without ever moving out of the way
i love it when i see the cops pull them over!!
they should make all dump trucks go over a bunch of speed bumps b4 they get on the hughways so that most of the rocks will fall off there and not on my car!!

Re: Mileage ~!!~!~!~!
What sucks even more than dump trucks are rock trucks. None of the ones here cover their load, so there is always a steady stream of rocks flying off the trucks . Even if I hang way back, I still get nailed. In fact I got my first rock chip in the windshield when I had < 100 miles on the car. In fact a few months ago, instead of hanging back, (as I still get nailed), I passed the rock truck instead. Except as soon as I passed it, I get pulled over for speeding
I also hate studded tires. In fact last year, there was legislation here in Washington State that seeked to ban studded tires, with the popularity of studless snow tires, like the Blizzak. But it got defeated .
It never fails... Every year on November 1, there will be tons of cars with studded tires running around, and this will keep up until April 1.

Re: Mileage ~!!~!~!~!
my work is either 53 or 60 miles away, each way. that is why i drive a sentra on a daily basis. between not wanting to beat up g, traffic jams that do arise, premium gas, mileage.....
plus, when i do drive my g, it always is a pleasure.
though i then have to worry where i park.
