Coupe VS Sedan Loaner - Power

Guys... Just got back from having a loaner from dealer and they gave me a 03 Sedan 5 AT. Maybe it is my imagination but when getting on the Sedan it seemed faster then my coupe 6mt. Maybe it was my imagination but it seemed like it pulled much harder from the 4K and up. The loaner had 19K miles and my coupe has 7K. The breaking with my Brembos seemed much more sensitive and linear. Handling is much better in the coupe as well. Don't get me wrong, my coupe is quick and performs very well but it did seem the sedan with the auto was quicker.

Re: Coupe VS Sedan Loaner - Power

Alot of people have said that!! But after driving my friend 6spd coupe and then remebering how my car was stock, i could see the huge difference!! Now i beat his coupe all of the time and he loves the throttle response and power out of my auto sedan, but then i wa slike damm what if i did all that work on the coupe, it would be even that much bigger of a difference which was HUGE for my car!!

Yeah I noticed the same thing, it feels faster than the coupe. Also it feels like the handle is a little better to me also. I thought it was just me.

This has been posted a couple times before. I think someone posted the reason why this is. Something to do with the wheels and tires? I'm not sure but it just makes you feel like the car is faster.

Re: Coupe VS Sedan Loaner - Power

That could be many differnt things...

1) wheels
2) AT vs MT (big difference in gearing)
3) Suspension (lighter suspensions "squat" more and give that thrown back in the seat feeling, while the coupes harder suspension doesnt "drop" as much)
4) ECU, people BEAT on loaners, esp 6MT guys who go to AT sedans (PLEASE DONT START A WAR OVER THIS) but ever time I find myself in the seat of an AT, I floor it way more than I do in an MT.
5) Imagination?

Anythings possible, but Coupe vs Sedan, all mods being equal, -20 hp and + few pounds = not as fast.

Re: Coupe VS Sedan Loaner - Power

I have noticed a difference as well. Everytime I get a sedan loaner, it seems to pull so hard from 3,000 rpm.......
It could be that I don't beat my car as much as I used to, and the ECU is adjusted to my driving style.......

But its sure fun to wind out the sedan. Puts a big smile on my face everytime I get one....
I'm trying to convince my wife to get a sedan when her G20 lease is finished......

Re: Coupe VS Sedan Loaner - Power

Thanks to all who responded to my question. I thought I was going crazy! I came from a 00 Mustang GT (5 Speed - No Mods) and I can say that acceleration is very equal comparing cars. The difference is how the power is delievered in the G... smoootthhhhh. Let's not even talk about handling and braking! The G wins in all areas. That said that auto G felt really quick to 60 MPH from a stop. Very impressive... but I will never give up my stick. Just a drivers choice.
