History of Nissan/Infiniti Motor Company

Is there any validity in the statement that Nissan/Infiniti is owned by the French Car maker Renault?
Does it mean we are driving a french car as a french friend of mine suggested?

Re: Histroy of Nissan/Infiniti Motor Company

Renault owns 44% of Nissan and Nissan owns 25% of Renault. So Renault has controling interests in Nissan, but hasn't really made any dramatic changes. Nissans are still produced in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Japan (350Z and Maxima). All Infiniti's are produced in Japan except for the QX56. Which looks an awful lot like the Nissan Armada. The main thing Renault did was appoint a new CEO, Carlos Ghosn. Who in my opinion help turn the company around.

Would you rather GM had 20% interests like they do in Subaru? Or how Ford owns Mazda?

Well...yeah.

The Lexus LX sure looks a lot like the Toyota Land Cruiser.

Or how Ford owns, Mazda, Land Rover, Aston Martin, Volvo, and Jagyooar!

APC is my weapon of choice.
APC reeks of great taste.
APC is the greatest aftermarket company in the world!

Yeap, Mr Elussive is right. The engine in g35 is french, coming from a family sedan Reanult Laguna and a Minivan Espace. Luckily it is tweaked by Nissan and puts out more HP than in Renaults.
That is why people tend to say that this generation of Skyline (350GT) is not a real Skyline anymore.

Blck/Blck G35 coming in January.
Untill then 200hp Seat Leon ;-)

Actually if I've read correctly it's the other way around. The VQ35 engine was supplied to Renault from Nissan, so it's still a Japanese engine.

well, all bmw's are made in germany, except for the suv which is made in north carolina.

as for ford and mazda, i thought that was only the trucks, not cars. a couple of years ago i bought a small mazda pickup. same exact car as the ford, but different badging and warranty was for 50k miles instead of 36. both were made at same factory.

Ford Explorer = Mazda Navajo, as well. Light trucks, etc. Haven't seen the cars mirrored.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Michelin is a German company...

Re: History of Nissan/Infiniti Motor Company

This is very old news. Nissan was on the brink of going bankrupt when this occured. All corporate info is at www.Nissannews.com

Signed on March 27, 1999, the Renault-Nissan Alliance is the first of its kind involving a Japanese and a French company, each with its own distinct corporate culture and brand identity. Both companies share a single joint strategy of profitable growth and a community of interests. To promote this shared objective, the Renault-Nissan Alliance set up joint project structures as early as June 1999 covering most of both companies' activities.
