G35 50K Service & Powertrain Warranty Service

Hello,

I own a 2004 G35 Coupe with 49K. The car is running great, brakes are solid, acceleration smooth, and no other misc. issues as I can detect. My dealer has contacted me to have the 50,000 service done on the car. Below is the list of tasks to be done for $1,200:
Lube ,oil and filter
Air filter replace
In-cabin filter replace
Wiper blades
Brake fluid flush
Cooling system flush
Transmission fluid service
Differential fluid service
Drive belt replacement
Tire balance/Brake inspection
Consult system check/ Emissions diagnostic
Multi-point inspection
Wash and vac

I have an independent garage who have serviced my BMW for years and is excellent, however I'm not too sure his experience with Infiniti. I think I will have him perform a basic overall inspection and just fix what is needed. Any comments with respect to Infiniti vs Independent garage for this level of service.

The other issue is my Powertrain Warranty expires in November. I am thinking to take my G35 to my independent garage to check-out the car but specifically review all Powertrain systems to determine if there are any issues. If so I could then take the car to the Infiniti dealer for warranty service. Any suggestions on specific things that should be checked on the Powertrain.

Thank you

Take it to the garage rather then going to Infiniti, or even a Nissan dealership will be cheaper also. I only go to Infiniti for warranty work.

A couple things that I could think of:

I have never taken my cars into the dealership for service, just a ripoff.
Def go to your mechanic or a certified Nissan/Infiniti mechanic for service.
If you have the place to do it half those things on the list can be done by yourself.
If you have the time and patience.

I'm curious about this too. I have a good friend that owns a BMW performance shop and is willing to help me out with header/pipe/exhaust installs... I assume that his shop could do just as good a job as any other, if not better?

my only question is how these dealerships stay in business? they make next to nothing off the cars they sell these days. are there really that many idiots that like to be ripped off in service?

^ Oh yes

When I was at the dealer getting the airbag service done, I hear one of the guys on the phone.

You need the Engine air and fuel system taken care of, the service writer put a spin on it on what it did and all. What they are doing is dumping some fuel injector cleaner in the tank (5-11 bucks) and installing a new air filter (15 bucks), for 300 bucks.

Its crazy mang

Thanks for the feedback. Preventative maintenance is a good policy, but I can do 7 of the items listed myself and my independent service guy can complete the balance for half the cost. Best to save the funds for a real issue in the future. Main issue is to confirm all Powertrain systems are in order, so I can deal with any major issue before the warranty expires in November. I have owned a 5 series BMW for 7 years and was only serviced by the dealer once. Still runs great.
