Navigation - Screen Will Not Stay Up?

This is a persistent problem that really pisses me off. Approximately every other time I get in my car (50%), the damn navigation screen goes up and then slides back down immediately. If I press the button, it goes up...and then comes back down. If I press the button enough times, the screen will stay up, but remains blank and refuses to retract until I shut the car off. It seems that if the car is off for 30 minutes or more, the screen might work after starting it again. It's out of warranty and there's no way in hell I'm taking it to the dealer for diagnosis, but has anyone encountered this issue before (I tried searching)? I can no longer rely on my navigation when I might need it, making it useless.

My car has 39,xxx miles on it and I rarely drive it since moving to Chicago, but this has been occurring for about five
