Oil consumption issues
Oil consumption issues
For the second time in LESS than a week the dealer has found no oil in my engine. I have proof that it was topped off by another dealer and still they refuse to swap it under warranty for the fact they expect me to have all oil maintenance records over the life of the vehicle. I bought the car used. Is this a valid request of the dealer? They also said i have an aftermarket spacer but that it doesn't void my warranty. The tech said he thinks it was once turboed. Is this possible to prove? Where do i go from here

You should have done some research before buying a G35. I warn people all the time and people just brush if off. Thinking that they're safe buying an "Infiniti".
I bet you're also leaking oil to the spark plugs also. I'm guessing the previous owner knew the car was crap and couldn't wait to get rid of it.
Lol this guy knows it all. The car came off lease from manheim auction and checked out in above average condition. The oil was changed like every other car that runs through manheim and you can't detect oil consumption without driving the car and having the issue occur. Also, no oil leaking in any of the cylinders. Your input is appreciated.

Read pg2 (flow-chart) Look at step 1 (oil change history....or not) end result is the same if you fail the consumption test.
And check this TSB when you do get replacement approved, make sure dealer commissions your replacement like this.

^ ya, we do. However, if you've never ever been to the dealer for any kind of maintenance and you cannot produce records of your oil change history you cant expect to just stroll in and say hey my oil was low twice, gimme a new motor. Doesn't work that way..and you can't entirely blame the dealer, they have to report to and show documentation to corporate or else they can get audited. It also helps to do a service or 2 with the dealer so you have some kind of history with them, and will improve your odds for "good-willed" repairs down the road. People always think the dealer is trying to screw them when its usually the other way around (but i may be bias lol)
I wasnt so much as asking for a new motor today. All I wanted was for someone to look in to the fact that there is clearly a problem with my motor considering that within a week nearly 5 quarts of oil has been burned. Providing records of previous oil changes I understand, fair enough. However, i was told that because I did not have consistent records over the past 52,000 miles (life of the vehicle) that there was no one who would help me. I find it unbelieveable that completely disregarding the fact that i've only owned the car for 10k miles they expect me to be able to produce such records. The service writer clearly agreed that I had a consumption problem and wasnt willing to help me any way. He basically told me that i was on my own to contact infiniti and fight with them. unbelievable.

If you do not have maintenance records they will strip your car down and check for sludge. If they find sludge your warranty will be completely taken away, and you have to pay for the tear down (atleast at my dealer). If there is only free flowing oil they will replace either the short or long block depending on what they "think" is the cause. Make sure the warranty has been transfered onto your name as well from the previous owner.

True, not the dealers fault such a high TSB claim cost, but it's not the Infiniti owner either. Corp created the TSB, released it and knows it's unusual high cost they'll pay you. If our consumption rate qualifies, SM talks to RM. RM talks to Corp...approved...done, oh and most likely no audit b/c of monthly warranty/non-warranty ratio became whacked out.
I've read so many stories (my past experience included) over the years and still do just on this TSB that's 180 out what you said. I had all service done at dealer since day one new too. This so-called Infiniti experience, still to date and why I still help owners, leaves a bad taste in my mouth from Infiniti Dealerships with their sneaky games to screw the owner while under warranty with this TSB
