Weird noise w/ clutch
Weird noise w/ clutch
Alright, so... some background info. A while ago, my radiator basically exploded. I took it into a sketchy Infiniti dealership (I was out of town) and they said it was a computer issue and all is good. Well, I get it back and about a week later, noticed a weird noise that the clutch is making. I have no idea whether or not they're related (I don't really know why they would be), but I thought I'd mention it since it happened around the same time.
It's hard to describe but here goes: when I'm in 1st gear, and going down a hill (sometimes when I'm on level ground), there's a LOUD rattling noise when I hit the clutch. Only in 1st. It can be heard inside and outside. It almost sounds like something is loose and rattling around, and it also sort of sounds like metal on metal. I told the dealership and they told me they couldn't find any issues, and weren't going to look at the clutch for no reason, ya know? My warranty just expired this month and I'm gonna be super pissed if the clutch needs to be replaced.
Any ideas?

Sounds like the typical "cement mixer" complaint. Its normal with our transmissions. Usually its the throwout bearing from the clutch or a noisy flywheel. How many miles do you have on your G. Mine has been getting louder by the week because my clutch is about to go.
Just keep an eye on it, but allot of members complain about the issue. If the clutch is engaging fine and not slipping, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Oh ok... cool. I just thought it was extremely weird that I never noticed it for the 1.5 years that I've owned it and it suddenly got louder.
It's not getting louder and louder tho - it's been the same for a while now. Other than that, the clutch pedal is a little sticky at times.. usually on long trips (weird, I know) but will fix itself. It engages just fine, but friends of mine that have driven it tell me something is wrong with it, but I'm pretty positive it's normal. It engages when I pretty much let it 95% out... normal?

Sticky clutch pedal is also normal. Some have found that using a stainless steel clutch line helps with that, and some others have to replace the slave cylinder if it actually starts sticking to the floor and not returning back up. I have to let my clutch out almost all the way now as well, but again its because my disc is worn down. It is normal though with our clutches to have to let it out far to get it to engage. I noticed it from day one. If the clutch is not slipping though, dont worry about it.
same thing is happening with mine and i was told that it was the "throw out" bearing also called the "release bearing" it happens in first gear as well wen i have my foot on the clutch and at times if i release it and push the clutch back in it goes away i found the part online from $30 to $60 so its not that bad but if u take it to a shop labor might be a lil pricy there so find a friend who knows how to do that lol
Sounds like you got your answer Laura. It's typical for a throwout bearing to start making noise after excessive mileage. I had one freeze up and couldn't get the trans in any gear. If it needs replacing don't go to the dealership, find a trans shop in your neighborhood....cost will be considerably less.
