the g35 manual mentions a shift linkage. is this something that I could do easily or do I have to take it to the dealer?

Interesting. So we do have a shift linkage. I posted about "shifter vibration" a while back, and many of the excuses were "the G doesn't have shift linkage" so that why our shifter vibrates like hell.

I guess all we do know is bodykits and clear corners. lol

I would take it back to the dealer.

I called up the dealer and asked him about the shift linkage. He said it is possible. I have an appointment set up for tomorrow morning. Is there anything else I can ask him to check while I'm there? ( he should know what all to check for but this is the same person who told me it's normal to have difficulty in shifting to the 5th and 6th gears, so I want to make sure I have him check all possibilities )

why would it be "normal" to have difficulty shifting in *any* gear? that just doesn't make any sense. i don't have any difficulty shifting into 5th or 6th or any gear actually. If the motions of shifting through each gear is problematic then that is not at all normal. If someone tells you other wise you need to call them out on it and ask them why they say its normal.

My 06 Z always had issues with quick shifts into 2nd gear. I added some spacers under the clutch due to people claiming we have excessive clutch travel and now I have issues with 5th and 6th. I've just dealt with it though cuz if I'm shifting into 5th chances are that I don't need to shift quickly /shrug.

I dont know if its exactly called a shift linkage thats jsut what i am used to calling it lol. Its where the shifter meets the trans theres i believe two or three screws. Just one of them being gone or lose can cause it not to engage right. Therefore it prevents it from going into gear.

I was in the same mess as you thinking it was my tranny, i also had just put in a new clutch and flywheel. Turns out it was a simple fix thank god.

OP- When it was happening to me i could shift into sixth but fifth wouldnt go in if i tried from fourth. After the bolt came out i lost fifth and sixth and had trouble with reverse.

In my case, I'm able to shift to fifth and sixth but it is not as smooth as shifting to gears 1-4. I need to apply force to get it into the fifth and sixth gears. I am worried that by applying force I am wearing out some part.
I called up the dealer. I was supposed to take it to them tomorrow but they postponed it to Monday.
Thanks for your advice. I really hope it is just the shift linkage and not something major.

I just got my car back from the dealer. He told me that it was the shift plate. It seems the alignment was not proper. They also found some issue with the clutch master cylinder and replaced it too.
I'm able to shift into all gears properly now.
thanks guys.. if i hadn't posted here, i might still be driving around wrestling with the gears and wearing down the shift plate !!
